Impossibly difficult
Hi,
this darned game is driving me crazy. It is impossible to stay alive (playing solo). Game steals from me millions of hard earned cash. I have played WoW and Diablo, enemies on the same level as me were easy or moderately difficult. In Borderlands I managed to finish 2nd playthrough (meanwhile uninstalling it twice) only by staying about 3 levels above enemies. And still it was far from easy.
Now enemies level up with me and it is a game over and I think I won't get to play any DLC :(

Honestly this is sort of a "get good" situation, look at the tactics you use, look at the guns you're using, look at your skills and everything. Also look at your decisions in battle, when are you firing, where are you firing, etc etc. I'll take an average sniper and headshot/crit spot enemies 90%+ of the time, if you can't say the same, if you're only hitting their crit spot 30% of the time, look at what you're doing wrong. I'm not going to say the game is easy, it can certainly be a challenge. But don't blame the game.

I mean, I don't know what class you're using, or guns or anything, but guns like mashers and double anarchies (or even double anything) exist, and honestly kinda trivialize a large part of the game/number of enemies. Good stompers/cobras (battle rifles) can trivialize a lot of enemies, especially when you're smart and use range and cover. See what I'm saying? IMO the only unfair part about BL1, literally the only unfair thing is that you can't crawl around during FFYL.

Can you tell us what class you play, your skill tree and what gear you currently have?

Usually if people have any kind of problems with Borderlands it's because they are underleveled (but seems that's not your case) or have underleveled gear (which is also not really a case in first Borderlands because one good low lvl gun can last you for the whole playthrough)

I play soldier with rifleman mod. My best weapon is a glorious havoc. I try to use machine guns, shotguns, SMGs, sniper rifles, whatever feels most powerful for a situation. Please see the screenshots here for requested information.

I was dying repeatedly on "A bug problem" quest. Finally I killed Widowmaker, it took at least 150 bullets and about a minute of time. But in the next quest area elite popped from ground and I got kllled within a couple seconds. In one second I lose 100% shield and 100% health in attacks I can't see how to dodge. My character is so slow and those beasts so fast.

As for crit chance, I have very low crit with a sniper rifle as I play with a gamepad, not a mouse (please don't blame me). So my aiming is not as fast and accurate as with a mouse.

I play with a gamepad, for what it's worth. If you're a rifleman, yeah the glorious havoc (of blue quality or higher, preferably scoped) is fine. You'll also want a nice hyperion/dahl cobra/stomper. The bug problem quest, is usually pretty easy, just strafe around them and fire at their abdomen/crit spot...you can definitely dodge their attacks, strafing left and right and doing circles are the best for avoiding attacks. Good luck to you.

not many people talk about it but imo borderlands 1 is very unforgiving, it clearly shows that it was made for 4 players.

I mean who beat the destroyer without going down like 4 times when playing solo?

You can solo this by completing the side missions that are at or below your level as and when you get them. That way you level your way up to the more difficult missions.

Yep, doing side quests will help you boost in the game

I can solo Destroyer in PT1, Siren in Mercenary build

find a Tediore shield with quick Health regen.
you ARE using the Turret, right ?
find a Support Gunner class mod. it'll help with ammo.
Explosive weapons rule.
never rush to the next waypoint. especially in Co-op.
stick to Machine guns. Combat Rifles suck.
Atlas and Torgue are good guns to look out for.
pay VERY close attention to Mission levels. if it says " Tough ', it will be. and the gear you DO find, will be unusable.

Anyone can solo Destroyer, it's just a bullet sponge with boring attacks that are easy to dodge. And Siren, especially with Mercenary build is the most overpowered thing in this game so...

Yeah the Destroyer is pretty easy too if you use a sniper with high crit dmg and a mirv gren mod
throw it into the critspot of the destroyer. or am i just dumb?

Thank you for your help :)

I researched every spiderant variant on borderlands.fandom.com and now I can usually survive at least smaller ones. I still get sometimes killed from warrior's bombs as they take about 90 % of health in one hit and it is difficult to keep track of five enemies at once. But after a lot of time I was able to finish the bug quest in Trash Coast and the Rust Commons.
But I would be completely lost without that wiki. From my game time, I think I have spent about 20 hours searching the wiki and Internet for obscure game's mechanics.

Regarding weapons, the problem is that enemies are stronger with each level. But finding a good weapon is a matter of luck and I have to play with one weapon for 5-10 levels until I finally get a better one. Thus my character getting weaker until a decent weapon drops.

just gonna mention this but if you're having a hard time getting better guns you can leave the game and come back in and the shops will have reset it allows you to farm the shops for new stuff

Anyone with half a brain wont go down in ffyl vs destroyer. There is straight up nothing that will cause you to go down in that fight..
