Where is Borderlands 1?

I just bought Borderlands 2, but I'm afraid I won't get the full experience unless I buy the first game. Why can't we buy the game standalone? Why do we have to pay $20 even if we don't want the DLC? I need an explanation for this, because I'm not spending $20 on a game that, at the current moment considering 2 was on sale, should only be worth $5.

The non-enhanced GOTY for Boderlands 1 is no longer available.

Your only option would be to buy the Enhaanced GOTY edition.

Storywise you aren't missing anything tremendous.

BL1 is a fine game. In many parts better than 2 (IMHO) but it isn't really that story heavy. It focuses more on the gameplay.

If you can stand of you not getting a few references to BL1 in future BL games you can safely skip the first one or wait for it to become less expensive. 20€ (on sale) is a little too high of a price for a simple remaster of a quite old game.

However, gameplaywise BL1 is more true to the ARPG genre which is fun in itself. BL2 and BL:PS are more shooters than RPGs.

Also, tbh, you will get the full experience by beginning with borderland 2 (I found the second to be better than the first one) and will understand pretty much everything ;)
