Whitting's Elephant Gun on Playthrough 2

Really liked the weapon on the first run through the game, so I'd like to roll a good one on playthrough 2.

I'd just like to confirm if there's a point on waiting until the storyline is finished to do the quest that rewards it. Will it scale accordingly or does it have a fixed level and I have to keep killing Skagzilla to get a better one?

If your mission item was then you will definitely get stronger outfits but if you boss throw or random falls then there is little chance for it but then it will be stronger. something else no problem if i ask for something in the game.
