with a Siren leveled up for smg and elemental damage i wouldnt use a assault rifle, and so on...(mordecai- pistols or sniper / soldeier assault/ brick rockets and melee).
of course you dont have to play that way or use those weapons, but if your setup/skills suports heavily a special type of weapon it would be wasted points to use the others.
at the end, just play whats more fun for you.
i really likes my siren with an hellfire even if i had fun with all 4 characters.
but after my first 2,5 playthroughs with mordecai, the siren/smg combo seemed to be so more fun and action for me. but thats just me preference

Not really. All guns in this game have a spread that you can see with the size of your aiming reticle at any given moment. It depends on the weapon accuracy stat, and is modified by your character's weapon proficiency level and some skills. The spread gets wider temporarily from things like recoil or using sprint mode, then contracts with time. All shots land inside the circle defined by the inside of the reticle marks. If you have a wide spread, even centering the circle on your target perfectly might have most of your shots miss.
Real talk: Everybody goes on and on about the Unforgiven/Masher combo but most players will never see one. It's exceedingly rare. I have found several Pearls from farming Crawmerax but only ever got one Unforgiven with the Masher accessory. Even if you're level 69 and do nothing but open all the red chests in the Tartarus Station basement, save, reload, and repeat all day, you will probably not get it. The only thing rarer than this is probably the Reaper pistol (the machine pistol with the bugged health-stealing bayonet) of which I also only ever got one legit example.
If you're lucky enough to have one, cherish it, because it is not something everybody can get, unless they're only using their character to do Farmory runs or they're using Willowtree hax.
Bonus derp award goes to guides that are like "oh Crawmerax is easy just use Unforgiven Masher" when getting stuff that rare is exactly why you're farming Crawmerax in the first place.
To be fair, if you do manage to get one it really is pretty awesome.
Yeah, if you're a Scrub, for which you are.
Pretty much a unique setup for any class is: cobra (or any typical weapon, that shoots 3 shots per 1 click) that you use to make easy headshots on any distances, double anarchy for melee distances or for big targets, hellfire/firehawk for fire damage and personally I use a corrosive defiler for any armored enemies, it's pretty good.
