how do i get cane

apparently you get them from seeds dropped by little birds and boars :) discord community is informative

You only get cane seeds from boars which grow to make cane. You can only get wheat seeds from the tiny birds. If you have a new save since the most recent farming update, then you can also find these in the wild.

Build a farming plot, then use seed on plot.

I tried to, but it says I need bamboo, but then how do I get bamboo from the bamboo plant I am trying to plant?

Cacao is treated like a tree, which requires a different kind of plot.
