BIG NEWS: No VR headset? No problem!
VR Paradise can now be played even if you don't own a Vive, Oculus, WMR or other similar device!

The latest release (0.084) includes support for players without VR controllers - including keyboard, mouse and gamepad. This means you can play using your smartphone.

How, you ask?

It's actually quite simple. If you own a reasonably recent Smartphone, you can play using your mouse, keyboard or gamepad and use your Smartphone as the VR headset.

You will need:
* A modern smartphone - either Android or iOS

* A copy of a program like Riftcat VRidge (https://riftcat.com/vridge) or Kino VR (http://kinovr.kinoni.com/) installed on BOTH your PC and your device - note these require a separate purchase, and are not directly related to Totem

* A Google Cardboard or similar headset adaptor (see the websites above for more information) - these can be purchased for around $10-15 on eBay or similar

Note this method also works with HTC Vive Focus, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream View if you are using VRidge.

Note that Riftcat VRidge and Kino VR require a purchase of around $15-20 as well. These programs are NOT associated directly with Totem or VR Paradise, so please contact the makes of these programs for questions and support.

So, altogether for less than $50, you can FINALLY experience VR Paradise! Best of all, this same setup can also be used with other VR experiences, provided they also offer keyboard, mouse or gamepad support. So your purchases will go a long way beyond VR Paradise itself.

While this is NOT the same as the full VR experience, it will definitely help you to get familiar with what is possible - and we think you'll be running out to buy a VR device very soon!

Thanks for your continued support.

Hi folks. Great news! VR Paradise now supports keyboard, mouse and gamepad controls. So you can finally play this game even if you don't own a VR headset. See the top post for instructions on how to make this work.

NOTE: This is an exclusively VR experience and flat screen support is not planned or supported.

Will this work without VR?
Thanks.

Hi there. Welcome to the forums.

Sorry, the game only supports Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows MR headsets at the moment.

The development team is exploring other options, but VR is a central idea of this experience.

Please keep following the game to see what develops in future. You can follow @vrparadise on Twitter.

Thanks for your thoughts @Red Player. At this time, the focus of VR Paradise is to have an amazing VR experience. There are no plans currently for a "desktop only" experience, sorry.

However, this is something the team may consider in future. So please do follow @vrparadise on Twitter to keep updated with the news.

@wtprivate , I totally see your guys point on wanting VR, but there are people like me who can't afford a good VR right now, and I would simply like to use a controller and my screen, if I were able to do that, even though I wouldn't have VR, I would still be more than willing to pay for VIP considering how well this looks. I hope you guys give it some thought as I know I'm not the only one. Hope to try this one day, best of luck with the project. Have a good day, cheers.

@DEATH - you're right. And we hear you!

You'll notice in the upcoming features announcement posted the other day that a new feature that is being added this month is the ability to play without VR controllers. You should be able to use keyboard, mouse or gamepad controller instead.

Do you own a smartphone? If you do, then I think you'll like where this is going...

For a very small amount (less than $50), you can turn your smartphone into a basic VR headset using software like Riftcat VRidge (https://riftcat.com/vridge) or Kino VR (http://kinovr.kinoni.com/).

While I haven't tested it myself yet, I am hoping that the ability to play without the VR controllers, combined with this simple solution, will let LOTS more people experience VR Paradise very soon!

Granted, it's not the same as experiencing it with a real VR headset - but the results are still pretty impressive for most things I've tried elsewhere.

Fingers crossed!

Just a note, but it works fine with Pimax too.

Awesome! Glad to hear and thanks a lot for replying! Also I will for sure check that program out, didn't know that was a thing, thanks!

Can't wait for the update, also can't wait to see this evolve. Keep up the great work and it's really awesome seeing Devs talk to the community.

Have a good one, cheers.

P.S. Thanks for the links, you rock!

Is there a way to play in desktop mode
any one?
wtprivate Mar 18, 2019 @ 9:41pm
Sorry this is not supported at the moment.

However, the next update due on 25th March will support alternative controls like keyboard, mouse and gamepad.

In theory, this should make it possible to experience VR Paradise with your smartphone as the VR headset using something like Riftcat VRidge or Kino VR.
