why do you think ace combat 7's startup has that screen that shows all the aircraft manufacturers names and logos? you need to be licensed to use aircraft designs you dont own and its on a title by title basis.
we're semi-lucky that ace combat 8 wont just be an episodic release based on ace combat 7

Silly that military weapon names are trademarked >:L
More like "obtuse intellectual property laws, ho!"
One of the big flaws of many IP laws, but especially America's, is that your IP automatically enters the public domain if you don't defend it against every single potential case of infringement that you can find. Now that said, it can be a bit of a gray area with stuff like weapons and military vehicles, which often have their designations assigned to them, at least in part, by the government. I believe this was brought up in the lawsuit between Colt and Bushmaster over the issue of the M4 carbine...or, specifically, whether only Colt could sell carbines by that name (meaning they own the name) or if anybody can (meaning the government owns the name and thus it's in the public domain). Colt lost that case, but it might be different when the entities aren't in the same industry as each other.
it's much easier to just slap fictionalized names on everything and call it a day than it is to wrangle a mixture of real designations and noms de guerre
I wonder if there are indie games that are sold with prices equivalent to most AAA games.
BTW,
Just by looking at that Combatace name on the link, I heard that the guy there once created HD aircraft models of LockOn games like Modern Air Combat, Flaming Cliffs, and Flaming Cliffs 2. I like his model releases.
