[Linux] Game won't start, not presenting errors
Just installed the game on my Xubuntu 14.04 machine (which ran Civ V fine when it had Windows several months ago) but when I start the game, my status will go to In-Game for a second and then go back to just Online. My resource monitor shows a CPU spick when this happens

It runs on Kubutu 14.04. They just added the new port abt 2 days ago so they probably have a few issues to iron out. I notice on mine when playing on a huge map it bogs down a lot. The Windows/wine version works well on myu machine so probaly not using both of my m,icrprocessor cores and or hyperthreading.

I suppose game require OpenGL 3.X to run properly.
You have 1st generation of Intel integrated graphics which only support GL 2.1 :-(

I have the same problem. It installs but when trying to run the game it popups the little steam box about launching but then just closes and no game launches :(

SXX: could the Intel v2.1 driver folks use the software-only rendering bit you tested to get around this? (Yes, it will be slow, but ...)

They can try, but it's will require new Mesa and LLVM so it's not going to work on Ubuntu 12.04.

Though guys with open source drivers and Ubuntu 12.04 need to update anyway.
weppnesp Jun 11, 2014 @ 11:49pm
Thanks for the help! It may be that my computer is insufficient BUT it does run on the Windows side of the same computer. It is slow but it does run. I was hoping that Linux would run faster

I am getting the errors below which is independent of the driver ( as you see I have Ubuntu 14.04 and the closed source driver). In checking the directories I found that gameoverlayrenderer.so in '/home/weppnesp/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32' and '/home/weppnesp/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64' were installed when Football Manager was installed, prior to Civ 5. My guess is that the exec for Football Manager is a different generation (port older) than Civ 5. This is a Steam issue, no? I need gameoverlayrenderer libraries that are compatable with Civ 5.

Thanks again,
Steve

Windows version depend on DirectX 9 which is available on your graphics card, but as far as I see Linux one need OpenGL 3.X which isn't supported by 1st generation of Intel integrated graphics.

You might try to override it like this:
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.0 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=130
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.1 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=140
Though I don't sure if this will work.
