Civilization 5 Crashes before loading main menu
When I try to launch Civ 5 in Directx 10/11 or the Windows 8 edition, my game crashes after loading the intro movie, but before the main menu loads. My PC specs are:
Alienware X51
Windows 10
NVIDIA 660X GeoForce
16GB Ram
(I'm new to pc's so that's all I know)
I tried using Windows Event viewer and this is the error report I received:
"Faulting application name: CivilizationV_Tablet.exe, version: 1.0.3.279, time stamp: 0x546cd5f8
Faulting module name: d3d11.dll, version: 10.0.10240.16384, time stamp: 0x559f3c11
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0004f917
Faulting process id: 0x23f4
Faulting application start time: 0x01d0e519a4b417a3
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam Downloads\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\CivilizationV_Tablet.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d11.dll
Report Id: 7976707a-6db1-4fd8-89f8-607b8a67dfc4
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:"
I followed the Faulting Module Path and the faulting module was d3d11.dll, but the file was present in the correct spot. I have no mods installed, I've deleted my Civ 5 folder from "My Games" inside "My Documents" I've deleted the Civ 5 folder from the ...\steamapps\common\Civ5, I've verified the integrity of the game cache and I've reinstalled the entire game. My video drivers are up to date, but I'm not sure how to check if my sound drivers are up to date. I'm playing with all of the expansions, and I can play without crashes on the Directx 9 edition but I'd prefer to use the other versions
Any help, whether it solves my problem or not is greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)

I have a new comp running Windows 8.1. I had this exact problem and I changed the username of my user account for my computer (and I made it local but I don't think this is necessary) so that it didn't contain any numbers or special characters and surprisingly this worked.

This is an on going issue with this game. It keeps happening to me and I find a fix for it, the game works for a while and it happens again. I try the same fix it doesn't work. try differenet fix, it works etc. etc. It's happened to me about 4 times since Jan. 2015

Oh ? You are lucky because I have Windows 7 and my game crashs on the loading :(
And there is not difference between Direct x9 and Direct x10/11, I have got the same issue...

Uninstalling and reinstalling Civ V via Steam worked for me. I'm now back up and running.

2K support suggests uninstalling, update your video drivers, update a whole bunch of Visual C++ redistribution files and then reinstalling. I just did the first and last step and it worked.
