Instant defeat in multiplayer
So I have been trying to play a game of civ 5 with someone else, but it just won't work.

When the game is loaded and starts it instantly tells me I have been defeated, it also shows no revealed bit of the map and the minimap is a weird mosaic of sea-blue and uncovered-white.
But the main problem is that it tells me I have been defeated instantly.
The other person's game has no issues, she can play just fine and everything looks normal (although she hasn't tried anything past the first turn yet so we can't be sure).

We have been looking online for solutions for 2 hours now and we can't find anything that resembles the problem I have.

Some additional info:
We are playing on windows 10 and the same version of Civ5
She has no DLC and I have already turned off all of mine

Things we've tried already:
Reinstalling Civ5 on both our machines
Either of us hosting
Restarting steam
Restarting PCs
Trying loads of times
Deleting game cache

Help me Steam Community,
You're my only hope

Hmmm how peculiar. First of all I would find out who is at fault. Find a third party to host the game and take it in turns to launch the game.

Just to be sure when you reinstall, make sure that when you uninstall the game you look for the civ V folder in steam and delete all contents as well as deleting all civ V data in your documents.

Additionally I would recommend your friend buying the DLC, it is not too expensive especially when on sale and vastly improves the overall experience IMO.
It's Happening on Me Too. Not Only Multiplayer, but in Singleplayer Too with Mods!
