MAC OS CATALINA
I can't even get Civ 5 to load now I've updated to the latest MAC OS.
Before I updated I could only play with fellow MAC players.
Is this being worked on or should I just delete CIV?

Civ V was/is a 32bit application, Catalina will only run 64bit applications. I am currently downloading the latest patch and that may update it to 64bit

It is still a 32bit app after this last patch
To check your applications before updating to Catalina -
Select "About this Mac" in the apple menu - Click System Report then scroll down the left side and select "Applications". Make the window bigger and click the 64bit column to sort the apps to see all the 32bit (no) apps together

It doesn't seem like they're going to release a 64-bit version of Civ 5. Any ideas on how to get this going on Catalina without having to install Windows on my Mac?

Civ V and Civ VI won't load on my Dell Inspiron anymore and they worked fine for at least 5 years, until Windows 10 installed itself and now no matter what I do, it wont work at all.

Civ 5 has been updated to 64 bit. I had to re-install on my mac to get it working on catalina.

Note that the 64 bit update also caused a "version mismatch" error when I try to play with friends on Windows. Not sure if they're going to fix it...

I can also confirm this. If you load the game, you should see the version number on the main menu. The version numbers are mostly the same, except my Mac friend showed me that he had some numbers in parentheses after the version number, so I'm guessing like a patch number. So now the Mac version is technically more updated than the Windows version. I hope they'll do something, even if it's as simple as changing a versionNumber string in the game files or something.

Hmmmhhhh - taht's strange. I removed the 32-bit version and installed again. Aspyr has told me that I'll get the very recent 64-bit version. But apparently that doesn't.

Are you perhaps on the legacy version?
You need to unsub from all betas in the Steam client.

After updating, I was table to get it to work by:

1. Right clicking the game and clicking properties
2. Clicking "BROWSE LOCAL FILES..."
3. Double clicking the app, this has the Mac run the verifying application thingy

After that it seems to work just fine.

Good luck!

This worked for me, too. I was on the verge of returning it for a refund, when I found this. Thank you!
