64-bit version on Mac App Store and not here?
Hi, when Catalina comes on Mac OS, Civ V will stop working because it's a 32-bit game on Steam. If there is not update on Steam, that will mean this game will stop working. At the same time, those who bought the game on the Mac App store, a 64-bit game, will still be able to play it.

Anyone knows if the Steam game will have an update?

Because if not, I'll have to pay the game a second time on the mac app store, and I guess stop using Steam completely.

Thanks

Your best bet is to contact Aspyr (https://support.aspyr.com). They are the only ones that can officially answer your question. They are the developers of the Mac version of this game.

64 Bit
anyone know when the 64 bit version will be released for Mac? Just updated my Mac and now I can't play civ 5 anymore because 10.15 disabled 32 bit games unfortunately

I'm pretty sure Civ 5 is no longer supported and it won't be coming out

Is Civ6 a supported 64-bit app?

I'd also like to know when or even if the 64bit version will be available. Its already om the App Store in a 64bit version but steam doesn't have it.

The Mac App Store version has been updated to 64-bit. The Steam macOS version is still on 32-bit.

You basically have to wait on Firaxis to patch the game. Meanwhile, you should keep your Mac on 10.14 or earlier if you still want to play Civ V.

Tweet to @Firaxis and let them now that this update is needed

That's what did: they say there will be a -bit version but don't know when...

Slight correction, you need to tweet Aspyr. They develop the Linux version of the game.

Steam version of Civ 5 isn't made to an 64-bit app yet. Which means it will not run on Catalina.

Please contact Aspyr support to get more info and/or a resolution.
You can find them here: https://support.aspyr.com

I've already contacted Aspyr support, their response was :

"The Steam version of Civilization V will be receiving a 64-bit update. However, at this time we do not have an ETA for when the update will be available."

Given that the App store version is 64 bit and has been for over 5 months, I doubt they are in any hurry to update the Steam version.

Have trouble after macOS Catalina software update plase help
If you want to play Civilization V, please don't update your MacBook.:steamfacepalm:

Yesterday, I noticed my MacBook Pro wants a software update which was 'macOS Catalina' (version 10.15). So I let her update herself.

I shouldn't do that. Now I can't play this game.
And I'm eager to play this game right now.

I saw a pinned thread "New Launcher Technical Issues" http://store.steampowered.com
But well, it couldn't help me. After beta access, I still can't play this game.
It says the developer should update this app to use this app at this version's macOS. So should I have to get in touch with the developer? No, I'll just sit tight and wait until developers are doing well.

How long should I have to wait? Does anyone who are struggling with this problem?

Same with me. I decided that keeping my OS updated was more important than playing computer games. So I installed Catalina as well. The vast majority of my 148 STEAM games run great. But sadly, CIV V needs to be updated. So just sitting tight is what we need to do.
