Problems after the latest patch?
Some of you are having problems running the game after the latest patch. Short of asking for each individual DXDIAG, here are a few tips that have gotten people up and running over at Civ Fanatics and the 2K Forums. I can't promise these will help everyone, but it's a good place to start.

1. Absolutely update your video card drivers to the current releases. This is the most important item on this list. This is especially important for those of you running integrated Intel HD video. Also, nVidia's latest beta drivers help out with some of the problems seen in the wild. All video card makers will have current drivers for October of this year (or newer). Not having updated drivers can manifest in "stretched" graphics, blinking graphics, etc.

2. If you're suffering a crash after starting a new game, please check your Fog of War setting. If the setting is "High", you *might* be running low on memory. Try adjusting it to medium or low and see if it makes a difference. This is especially valid if you are having problems with crashing in DX9.

3. Have you founded your first city, and then cannot move your first warrior even though everything looks like it's running correctly? Go into your config.ini (My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V) and set EnableGameCoreThreading = 0 to see if it makes a difference for you.

4. Do you see distinct black squares checkerboarding the terrain (black, not grey)? Check your video settings in the options menu. If your video resolution has a refresh rate of 74 or 75 Hz, try changing it to one that supports 59 or 60 Hz and see if it makes a difference for you.

5. Are you crashing when leader scenes come up? To help isolate the problem, try switching the leader scene quality to minimum in video options, and see if that stops the crash from occuring. If it does, try upping the quality to low or medium.

6. Are you running an AMD FX processor and seeing crashes? You may need a BIOS update:

I will add more potential solutions to this list as we run across them. In the mean-time, feel free to stop over at the 2K support forums, or the Civ Fanatics support forums. Both are excellent, and we are actively working through issues with their members. Our goal is always to make sure that everyone who wants to play can keep on playing.

For another resource, PCGamingWiki has a Civ V page with many of the known issues as well as possible solutions. For the moment, this includes a section on the recent patches.
