Diplomatic victory in BNW?
I would like to hear how others are doing a diplomatic victory in BNW?
I have not tried to go for a diplomatic victory in BNW yet. But it is not still just to bribe a lot of city-states in order to have enough votes for one self? And how many (percent) votes, must one have in order to win a diplomatic victory?

Votes vary a bit more than before. Itt's no longer one civ one vote. You get extra votes for things like being the host, certain techs, etc. But basically it does involve having as many CS on your side as you can muster, wether it's with gold or using other methods to gain infuence.

I have had two games that an AI liked me enough to vote for me to be World Leader. I haven't managed to buy thier votes for leader yet, but I haven't put much effort into it. So it should be theoretically possible to get a diplo win with no CS.

OK, so there are more variables for diplomatic victory, but CS allies are still an important point?

so I've been looking into diplo victories as I'm trying my first one. This post kinda made me think of something. I'm more of a cultural player myself, and during my last cultural game I think I saw something saying that if you reach dominance level cultural influence over a civ you gain their votes for world leader. You think this is why the ai voted for you thanter?

Diplomatic victory is pretty easy without bribing every city state:
1) Found a relgion
2) Keep it to yourself
3) Build Forbidden Palace
4) Research printing press + found all civs
5) Vote your religion world religion
6) Rush to modern
7) Vote your ideology world ideology
8) Rush to Atomic

Method should give you up to 8 more votes more than normal civs, so you don't need to buy out all city states anymore.

Oh btw if you liberate a civ you get their vote.

City-states are still very important for diplomatic victory. However, actually being friends with people and convincing them to help you is more important. As well, instead of bribing all the city-states right before the world leader vote, you need to have all the city-states allies long before to pass proposals you want.

if you have the most city states at the start can elect yourself leade, which snowballs at 2 a turn. Bribe and trade routes are pretty easy to aplease city states. I randomly won this victory by doing nothing, I guess because the city states hated all the AI civs.

At the begining use spys in city stated then if you make it to globalization just swap them over to capitals. - that may be wow i got it.

IMO, both the city-state bribing method, and the method "mvffinsandmilk" mention, are failed gamemechanics towards diplomatic victory. IMO, a diplomatic victory should be a victory, where the other civs vote for you, because they like you.

I think a diplomatic victory rather should be obtained by some of the following parameters:
- Liberating city-states, revive annihilated civs, and liberating cities
- Be a mediator for peace
- Help other civs (such as always or often give them the help (mostly gold) they ask for)
- And such. You get my point?

Another ridiculous easy way to win a diplomatic victory, is to micromanage the spies in CS', quick save before coup attempts, and reload the quick save if you failed the coups.
This tactic is especially effective, if the spies are fully promoted.

How do you manage (5) and (7) without the support of most of the City States? Especially if you kept your Religion to yourself.

Anyway I am still confused. Last game I had the support of every CS on the map. I was perpetually host. I had world Religeon and world Ideology. I had 34 votes for me, a paltry negligible numbers for everybody else. BUT I needed 35 votes fro World Leader. I could not figure out where that last vote was. Ended up winning a Science victory.....as usual.
