Help! Can't load saved games!
So I've been playing this game without any problems for several months, but this week I started running into an odd bug. The game loads normally, but whenever I click the button "Load Game" it crashes. Not when I try to load a specific game (i.e. not just some corrupted save file) and I can still start and save a new game normally, but as soon as I click a "load" button it crashes.

I get the following runtime error:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Program: ...common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\CivilizationV_DX11.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Not at all sure what this means or where the problem lies. To provide a little more context, I can tell you that this problem started after I saved a game on the Steam Cloud on a different computer and that game mysteriously crashed. (Not as good of a graphics card on that comp.) I assumed that maybe that save game had corrupted. But after reinstalling the game multiple times and turning off Steam sync, the problem persists. I don't know if perhaps I've somehow created a bug in DX11 or C++ Visual. Any thoughts?

Steam doesn't do a good job in uninstalling the game. To install a "clean" version you should uninstall Civ first, then make sure you delete the Civ5-Folder located in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games (this will delete settings, savegames etc. as well), delete the Civ-Installation-Folder and then reinstall the game.

If it's a problem with your local installation, that will most likely fix the issues.

That's a good point, but I'm afraid it didn't fix the issue. Thanks for the reply, though.

As an update, I've found that the game functions perfectly in offline mode. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Steam is the problem. How to fix it, though?

I fixed it a different way. Workaround. Instead of just loading your game, first go to the mod folder, click next, let all the mods load, then click the top button to continue, then load your game from there and that worked for me.

This was the only solution to fix my problem, thank you.

Thanks so much, that method worked for me. Almost all the other "fixes" that I have found involve something or other with Steam cloud saves, and I never use cloud saves. But this method of just going to the mod screen, letting it set up the game with those mods, and then loading my saved game works like a charm. I can play again.....well, I always could play, I just had to finish the game at one sitting because I could never load a saved game. Now I don't have to stay up for days on end or leave my PC running. I can save again. and come back to the game later! Thanks.
