Does the AI ever give in to demands?
I've never had that happen to me. Does it ever happen? All i've seen so far are things like "Pfft you are in no position to demand such things" or "come get it over my dead body"

Sure if you've got the military might to scare them, parking a large army near their border can work.

If they're "Afraid", they will (sometimes :D). That seems to exclude the "Oh, you've got nukes now...!"-afraidness. It's quite hard to push them into the afraid-status if you're not playing on a really low level, but if you do, they'll give you quite a lot.

well, I literally parked my army in front of several ai's last cities and they refused to give me anything. And then the next turn i killed them and all that extra resources they had vanished into thin air :/

I was playing on normal diff not too long ago. I can't remember who it was but I demanded 4 cities of his and he gave them to me. All he had left was his capital. I was rather stunned that he just gave them up.

Yeah Monty has done that before, I attacked one city and he gave me about 4, all surrounding his capital :D As for demanding, it's not really where your army is to how many units you have to make them afraid. :SocialPolicy:

I've only seen it happen if the civ is "Afraid" of you.
Raija Aug 22, 2013 @ 11:05am
Yeah they have to be "Afraid" of you with your military might.

People should know when they are conquered.
Would you?

Rarely to random demands unless they fear you. But often they will give a lot up if you are winning a war or they are involved in multiple wars.
Do they ever become afraid of you on diety?

I dont know how to get them afraid but the conditions i noticed were we just met and i am much more advanced than they are technologically. (usually whats funny is i usually meet monty on a dif continent and he is usually afraid of me when i do)

Nice reference.

Everyone's more or less on the money though. Typically even at 'normal' difficulty (4-5) you'll need to overkill the units to get someone to give into a demand. 'Afraid' is pretty much the way to tell when it's time to go for it.

A lot of the time, different Civs have different egos. Lets say Mongolia, if you have an army that can crush theirs, and you are about to capture their last city, sometimes they refuse peace. Some civs like india or arabia, who are pretty mellow, will sometimes fall for your demands even if your armies are equal, and they arn't afraid. This is due to them just wanting peace to be kept. But never expect Attila, Dido, Genghis, or any militeristic warmonglers, to fall into 'Afraid", and give you stuff out of demand.

I can't get over how the AI can't seem to let go of wanting to attack weak Civs. I've been kicking the crap out of Civs and they beg for peace yet I can't get them to stop attacking an ally forcing me to wipe them out.
