1920x1080 screen flickering problem
I think I've narrowed down the problem a bit. My screen only flickers when I'm on DX 10 & 11 mode while putting my laptop into screen mirroring or projector mode. The screen flickers on the monitor that I'm projecting to (on any refresh rate), but looks and plays just fine in 1920x1080 on my laptop's screen in DX 10/11. The flickering does not occur on 1680x1050 while projecting. When I set the game to DX9, 1920x1080 works just fine while projecting.

Turning off vsync doesn't do anything to help the problem.
I'm also making sure the game is utilizing the GPU, not the HD 4000 (I see the usage of my GPU with msi afterburner). I also have no issues on 1920x1080 in any other game wile mirroring or on my desktop which is the same resolution.

Computer specs:

Sony Vaio running windows 7 ultimate x64
Core i5 3210M @ 2.5ghz (with intel HD 4000)
6GB RAM
Geforce GT 640M LE @ 1000/1002

Any ideas? =/

Update: Setting the game to windowed mode stops the flickering even at 1920x1080 but full screen flickers as stated above.

I'd still like to know if there's a way to play it in fullscreen mode without flicker...

I get the same problem after a while as well, although i've started using windowed mode and hasn't done it in a while.

I've this problem too.. :-/ Can't play full screen

Edit: All problems were caused by plugging my screen into the wrong port and bypassing my discrete card. So the game was running on the integrated graphics on my i5-2500k. Plugging HDMI into the correct port fixed everything.

Identical problem here, switching back and forth from windowed mode doesn't solve it. Does the rest of the game run slow for anyone else now too? Even in windowed mode, performance is notably worse.

For me the problem started when I launched civ after a system reboot. The graphics settings suddenly had the game set to 1440x1080 instead of the usual 1920x1080.

Any ideas about how to solve this?

I had this same problem while using an external monitor (TV) connected with HDMI. I was able to get rid of the flickering by switching to using a regular monitor cable. This loses the audio through HDMI which I fixed with a separate audio cable. I also gained better power saving features like not having to push the power on button on the tv every time I turn the laptop on. I tried all the other fixes but this was the only thing that worked. Worth it so that I don't have to play in windowed mode.

Hello everybody. I'm having the same problem. When I set the display resolution to 1920x1080px (50 or 60hz) the screen is flickering. When I set up to 1920x1080px (23Hz), or lower resolutions window so the problem disappears. Has anyone found a solution?

Thank you.

The reason for that issue is, that when you use a hdmi-cable the mode is switched from 1080p to 1080i which causes interlacing problems. You can solve this by using a DVI or VGA cable or by reducing the resolution or use windowed mode (so it stays at 1080p).

Nevertheless it would be very kind, if the devs fix that problem.

Hi everyone, my screen had a terrible flickering problem too. I fixed it by going to the graphic sections of the options menu while in game and changed the anti-aliasing samples from 0 to 2 and that stopped the flickering and allows me to play in full screen. Hope it helps you guys as well

have that problem too. It's really not ok, then you have to buy new cable(or monitor) bc of bugs.

Some DirectX11 games start up in "i" mode instead of "p" mode (ie. 59i hz instead of 59p hz).

If your graphical options allow, set a custom resolution and select for Timingstandard "cvt-rb"
Overwrite the profile if it says it already exists.

Intel graphics has this option, don't know about the others

Sorry for the necro thread, I think I found a solution and I wanted to share it.

Running Civilization 5 on Windows 10 Screen Flicker
Machine: i-4690K overclocked
GTX 970 (SLI)
32GB RAM
DX 12

Enter NVIDIA Control and 3D settings for Civ 5, and set SLI to Single GPU.
Verify all local game cache
Go to the Civ 5 folder in your Steam Common folder and set the Win8 Version to Compatibility Mode: Run for Windows 8.
Boot through startup client and pick 'Windows 8 Version'.

Video Options: 3440x1440
AA: 2x
Fullscreen: OFF
VSync: OFF
High Detail View: OFF
Teesselation, Shadow, Water: LOW

I was also having frequent crashes when the Danes contacted me, so I set my Leader Scene Quality to Minimum and it stopped crashing on me entirely.
