Go to Program Files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/sid meier's civ v/assets/gameplay/xml/civilizations

Open Civ5Civilizations with notepad/internet etc., go to the greece civ, look for <IconAtlas></IconAtlas> and <PortraitIndex></PortraitIndex>, copy these files. I believe the atlas is called CIV_COLOR_ATLAS

Try that?

Although that is good for its purposes, but i want the actual file for best accuracy.
But some good came out of it, i did learn what letter to represent something in my upcomming mod :)

Okay, well apparently the file is referenced (found it within the xmls) but it cannot be found in the directory. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated

I studied couple of months ago how icons are stored in Civ V, because I wanted to know and one fellow steam user asked where religious icons can be found. It's not easy, but I explain that complicated process in this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/discussions/-1/627456486699021124/?appid=8930
I don't repeat that process again in this thread, read my post in that other thread.

Civilization icons for vanilla civs (plus some early DLC civs) can be found in this folder:
..\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Resource\DX9\
Civilization icons are in the fpk-file named "UITextures.fpk" (I just browsed trough files until I found the correct one). You need to open that file with fpk unpacker, like Dragon Unpacker (check the thread I linked). Civilization icons can be found in multiple sizes in that file, choose one size and unpack both .dds file and -index.dds (e.g. files "civsymbolscolor256.dds" and "civsymbolscolor256-index.dds" for 256px size icons). Then, use CivDdsUnpacker application to combine those two dds files to make a single png image file which contains all civilization icons (for vanilla and early DLC civs in this case).

You can of course reference it in the same way.

Otherwise you'll need to read up on an art tutorial. Civfanatics has those.
The art, is put in files which are then packed together. So you will indeed not find an exact file.
