Quick, Standard, Epic or Marathon?
Just a random poll. What kind of settings do you guys usually set to play? :)

Quick, usually. I don't think I'd be alive to finish a game of Civ on Marathon o.O

Quick. Though now you have me wondering about the others.

Marathon. I like exploring huge maps.

What all exactly does the speed setting effect?

Almost always marathon, get a lot more enjoyment out of each individual era.

So far quick. But I'd be willing to branch out.

Normaly I play quick, but if its an extra long weekend with no worries I play marathon

Epic. I find it's long enough to enjoy all the eras without feel like you're being rushed through them before you get a chance to play around (like catapults). Thinking of going up to marathon soon to get more enoyment out of each era, but we'll see.

You all convinced me to try Marathon. 54 turns to create a worker in Brazil. UNREAL. LOL

This expansion actually makes marathon much better as well. The late game prior to BNW was quite drawn out.

What I like about Epic and Marathon is the fact that you MUST have a different focus in your cities due to the long wait to get units, buildings and workers. i.e: Have a trade hub city, a military city and a science, culture or gold city. :D

What? One size doesn't fit all in Marathon? I have to actually plan?

Well, its up to tastes i guess :) But if you plan your cities things will be a lot easier. Planning cities is a common strategy but its not a must, imho, in other quicker settings.

Oh no, you're 100% right. The Brady Guide says the same. I've just been lazy with planning and it shows up dramatically in Marathon. Thanks for the nudge. I'll start planning my cities now. :)
