Not sure what's causing the problem, but I don't think that it is that the firewall, router, or any of the usual suspects as I've turned them all off or taken them out of the network equation.
I was playing multiplayer with my friend for the last few weeks (Hooray Steam Sales)
Today, we were about to start a new game...and then I had several problems arise. Only me, I tell you!
When two of my three friend are hosting, I get an "Error joining multiplayer session" message.
When the other friend hosts, I was able to join the game...BUT the other two could not see my name in the game! They can only see "Player X" where X is a number.
Restarted the game, Rebooted my computer, even restarted my computer...to no avail...
I've already had the same problem twice with VMWare and Hamachi. Both installed additional network interfaces. If you're playing on a notebook, most likely you have WLAN and wired LAN. Try deactivating every network connection you dont need to play.
Another problem could be lag or small bandwidth on the route between yours and your friend's PC. In that case blame your ISP play solitaire.
Having multiple network adapters shouldn't matter. It's a bug in the game, nothing else, and it should be fixed, period.
