Possible solution: Unable to host LAN game

If you are unable to host LAN game (for example when clicking Host Game -button ... nothing happens), try this.

1. Run cmd as administrator
2. type: NET STOP SharedAccess

Now there should be text that 'Internet Connection Sharing <ICS> -service has been stopped' or something similar.

This worked, however I see that in my network tools I still have my internet checked as "shared". Which is confusing but not a worry. Considering I've had this problem for months now I'm glad to finally have a solution.

You can also make shortcut, then you don't have to stop it manually every time, if you aren't disabled the service totally.


C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k NET STOP SharedAccess & exit

and from Shortcut tab -> advanced settings -> click run as administrator

NET STOP SharedAccess
start steam://rungameid/8930
 

run as administrator. Game run automaticly after stop ICS :)

Thanks so much dude... I had disabled ICS on the properties but somehow it looks like Windows 7 starts it automatically without your approval eh.. Thanks, this worked, after 1 hour of trying other things. :)

You can dissable the service, so it never runs.
Click 'start' or press the windows key.
type 'services.msc' press enter.
find 'internet connection sharing (ICS)' in the services window
Right click > properties > set 'startup type' box to disabled.

Thanks for this! After a ton of games without any problems started having issues of unable to load save game from cloud or host a game... this fixed it!

What do I do if I need this service as I give out Internet to my local network through it? I may not be able to play on LAN with your brother?

I don't even see the game created on the second computer. Although the application was added to the allowed firewall.
