5 and 6 go in very different directions with these mechanics.
As a result both of them are still constantly in steam top 100.
6 is ahead in players now, but that took years and many sales .
I'd say 6 is close to a zen city builder or a board game, while 5 is more of a war tactics and strategy game , but theres more to it than that.
I'd say 5 is better because of the artstyle and many of the minor mechanics. Being able to choose where roads go and some of the leader art really makes this game stand out.
Something very satisfying about connecting a city state to your empire.
This is the version of civ I prefer myself and I've played a good amount of both.
Just finished my first OCC with cultural victory, in emperor mode, with India
Ready for my next challenge : OCC scientific victory with Aztec in Emperor mode
Eh not much worse than Civ 6 going complete hysteric doomsday. Both the Civ 5/6 system are meh of ignored or overkill. Not to mention climate change should also have some positives such as upgrading artic to tundra and tundra to plains.

As for the thread yes Civ 5 is still worth playing and more worth playing than Civ 6.
I only play vanilla and started a new game w/ the Babylonians. Like all of the other Civ games the AI cheats on the harder difficulties so I just put it on Medium.
Civ V Vox Populli is the ultimate Civ experience
Then Civ V with expacs, Civ IV being a close second (also has a bunch of cool mods)
And THEN Civ vi, which was quite the disappointment, IMO.
