And the total idiot design decison to represent units with multiple chars like multiple workers or soldier is the most stupid design decision I ever saw. In zoom out which is the normal way to play such game, it makes them look like a garbage with unit types unclear and a mass obscure garbage merging the landscape and unit graphics.
How can you support this and promote such game with such a lame design decsion?????
Is there an option to have more clear and standard units and simplify the pointless landscape details????
I agree that zoom out is too close, I would like to zoom more to be able to view the whole battlefield in war times.
It can be switched on/off by clicking that globe icon next to the minimap. Actually that strategic view is very handy because it can show many things that normal 3D view can't.
Thanks to pinpoint this point about strategic view, but the units aren't on it. Or do I have a bug?
I chaged setup to use basic landscape and it helps to look more clear in zoom out, but not for units, colon and fighter look almost the same when zoom out.
EDIT: Ok the unit is the little icon, I have it, really ugly in comparison of older civ that was using a single soldier or a single worker to repretent a unit, but ok I could try a bit this, thanks.
I also can't find how show the grid, in strategic view it's so ugly that you wonder where is the grid.
EDIT2: G key for the grid. Civization 1 Mac version (quite redone vs PC one) was looking a lot better but at least I could give a more serious try to civ5, thank for the help.
Civ V icons are quite odd like you said. There are usually couple of figures in one unit, not one or not realistic size differences. I don't know if there is a mod which shows only one figure units, but the opposite scaled down mod exists: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=76153116
There is also a mod which scales resource icons to 50% size, so they don't cover the whole map: http://www.picknmixmods.com/mods/dab4ce8a-73a5-4beb-81c1-808e4baf45a8/mod.html
You can finetune the game a lot with mods. Problem is that you can't play multiplayer games with mods or you can't get achievements when using mods.
I wonder what enabled show those unit symbol icons (they are those on strategic view but now are on standard view too.
EDIT: I saw the options/filters of what's show on map but don't see something relative to the units symbol icons.
I admit than now with using simpleest graphics for landscape and removing all fancy options it' start looking playable with to hae use a close view.
EDIT2: And no way to change view angle to have it a bit more top?
There is some changes which you can make to game by editing game settings files manually. Files are located in your user profile documents folder: "...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\". There are three files (config.ini, GraphicsSettingsDX11.ini and UserSettings.ini) which can edit, but you should make backups for those before you do so. The config.ini file contains lots of debug options and you can disable certain game elements from there. If you are used to edit ini-files then give them a try and check those files. There is a setting for minimum zoom, but not for the maximum zoom. I have tried only couple of those settings, so I can't help much about how they work.
They are shown here : https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRXp7dkHIbjDoFDadcj3k1MbZTA0XnC-NE-dK2vgtgipEJQUcCYGg
They aren't shown here:

EDIT: And for me they wasn't shown (almost sure) and suddenyl are shown, I'd like now how to be sure be able active them again in case they disapear.
EDIT: I notice the wiki of civ5 doesn't use any of the real civ5 icons neither the symbolic nor the detailled graphics, it shows how wrong is this design choice. Ha well Damsteri I think you provide me something so it's plyable for me, even if it is far to be as good than prev civ. Now I can concentrate on the gameplay thank you. :-)
Maybe that icon thing was just a bug. I have seen few times that AI unit will lose that symbol when entering/leaving fog of war.
