How do I skip the infuriating "CHOOSE PRODUCTION" message?
It's pretty much the only thing I hate about this game - it's constantly forcing me into creating new units or buildings. I know there is "produce gold" option but it only becomes available after a certain period of time. Is there any way to skip the production earlier? Some glitch or mod perhaps?

funny you should ask there's a mod that moves gold production to the first tech (can't spell it at top of my head) look it up i bet you love it

You can also select Research as an option once you unlock it (this and the gold option unlock with technologies). Otherwise you can't skip Production - you have to be producing something. Check out strategies at sites like civfanatics, like http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=502837 , for tips on what's useful to produce and how the build order can work for you.

What is even worse - when you get a special person ( researcher ) and you click on get a free technology, it forces you to pick one, you cant undo and wait till your present finishes, so you can skip 1 in the tech tree, but have to choose another one ( or that particular present ). I dont like it :)

You must have really good production to have nothing but units to produce by the time you can convert production to gold or research. But if you don't want the units, you can gift them to city-states or delete them.

As an experienced civ player, all I have to say about this thread: wow.

I guess robots are born as experienced Civ players. People are not.

It's inconvenient but necessary

What would you want to skip production for? Loosing turns and wasting hammers is not a way to win...

I'm relieved to hear that I'm not the only person who can't stand this. I always hit the standby key whenever it switches to the researcher and come back to it later, so that I don't accidentally click the free tech option.

I don't get how you don't need to produce anything in your cities so early. How are you doing it? I mean, unless you found a way to do a ridiculous amount of money in early game and are buying all buildings, you should build it...

If you have too much production, make army, then gift the unit to city states.

impossible.

Why would you want to not make anything - i mean usually you build stuff cause you need it - anyhow i dont think there is a way to do that in an early game
TheFergmiester Dec 27, 2013 @ 6:20am
There is pretty much no situation in the early-game before you acquire the conversion technologies that you would ever want to NOT be building something. If you have some strategy that revolves around that, then ... well, sorry. Your strategy is too niche to warrant this change.
