In any case, you need to move your units to your teammate's lands, but this can be done even if you are on different continents. Player A (military/science) can build a new city next to his/hers other cities and gift the new city to player B (culture), who's capital is on other continent. Then player A can move his/hers GWAMs to new city's lands and gift them to player B. Player B can then make Great Works from those gifted GWAMS and move those Great Works to cities in his/hers own continent. Teleporting Great works are very practical. Player B can also make a new city and gift it to player A, if there is a need for two way GP trading or if player B needs/wants an outpost in other continent.
But I can't imagine a case where this could be beneficial to the team, because it handicaps Venice player more than it benefits the other player in the team. In the other hand, Spain and Venice makes a nice team, because then Spain can gift Conqistadors to Venice. I don't know if even normal settlers can be gifted to Venice, maybe...
Teamplay is mostly broken and human team can abuse game mechanisms and AI teams so badly that it's not even fun anymore, while AI+human mixed teams are unplayable. I have started at least dozen co-op games (two human team against AI teams) but never finished a single one. AI teams are just not worthy opponents. Civ V is a great single player game, ok MP game, but quite poor co-op game.
Actually, say venice is now no longer needing to expand. RIght? So they might want to gift it to a team player instead of using it themselves.
I imagine so, getting the policy for city-states to gift great people can get you a Merchant of Venice.
