How build Temples/Monasteries in Civ 5?
I'm playing Civ 5 on Linux, and I'm wondering if there's a bug...

I am Egypt, I'm in the industrial era, and I'm way ahead of the other nations. I have 5 big cities (pop ~25) but have never had the option to build Temples, Monasteries, or any religious building. This seems wierd. I can see them in the Civopedia, and I know that "faith" was introduced in the expansion packs, which I dont have.

How can I build a temple. Did I need to do something? I have a monument in every city because of my policy.

You can't build temples, because Egypt's unique building Burial Tomb replaces the Temple. Monastery requires an improved source of wine or incense in the city (vanilla version of the game).

Faith buildings are not built, but instead purchased with faith. Go to "Purchase" menu as if you were gonna buy a building for gold. There you can purchase with faith. :Diplomat:

Wait, if you don't have the expansion why are you even asking about this? lol :madelf:

Temples and Monasteries were there in vanilla version, they just produced culture instead of faith.

Monastries are outright awkward because you can't make good use of their bonus. Also Monastries do not reflect their original purpose. If their bonus was something like 2 piety, 2 production, 2 research, 2 food, 2 coins I would reconsider.

That's something a World Wonder could maybe produce. Not a normal building... that's way to powerful...

If you've got a region with a lot of wine or incense, monasteries are excellent.

And the question was answered in the first reply. Egypt can't build temples because they build burial tombs.
