Removing religion without your own religion?
I am trying to build an atheist civilization but it seems impossible. People always send their missionarys in like its no big deal brainwashing my people lol sometimes my frineds will stop for me but my enemys tell me to ♥♥♥♥ off so I have to murder all their missionaries which can be quite the task. anyways they usually sneak a few by and once religion catches on it spreads like wildfire.

Is there anyway to put a stop to its menace? I am trying to get social policies like rationalism but it fails to stop the plague that is religion. I cant build inquisitors but I think there should be something else you should be able to buy or maybe great scientists can go to debunk the foolish myths :p argh where is Stalin when you need him!

uh.... seeing as atheist do not belive in god and to my knowlege Buddism does not believe in god you could get Buddism as your religeon.

You could also remove religeon in setup of your game too.

However the only way to stop from haveing religeos cities period is to have them 13 tiles away from any other religeos city with no trade routes putting them together.

Also you could found a religeon and name it Athiest or Humanist or whatever.

Social policies will not help Rationalism it just improves scieance.

Certain religeos traits will help sciance though

Dude, found a religion, and name it Atheism. Problem solved. By the way, going atheist isn't all that great, religion gives you some really sweet bonuses.

First off Atheism is a region where you don't believe in any god at all.
Anyway, try to adapt a religon called Atheism, becides, having a religion gives some great bonuses, especially for happiness.
If you totally don't want religion in the game, there are 2 ways to do it:
one: get a mod that disables religon somehow
two: simply start in the Industrial Era or above and the game automatically disables religion

BTW my best way to prevent missionaries and prophets from converting my cities is to either conquer them, or to surround them with units, though it does cost lots of maintanance if you do but no diplomatic penalty.

It has followers, believers and a set of principles. It has its own church too. Who says its not a religion?

Atheism is not a religion, what the heck guys. Atheism is the lack of belief in anything supernatural, that is it.

Atheism doesn't have a set of principles, if you don't believe in God, then you're an Atheist - that's all. Atheist churches are - at least those that I know - made for people who enjoyed going to church when they were christians. They're meant to emulate the feeling these people had and be a replacement of the social component that "going to church" was. They're not real churches though, they're social clubs where no Deity or whatever else is worshipped.

Anyway, pretty sure that's an off-limits topic and there have been a lot of talks about this issue, so if you're interested in finding out why you're wrong, just use google or youtube to inform yourself. :) (edit: Oh, people were already nice enough to link you information directly - great!)

@topic:

Another possible way to display "Atheism" would be the Strange Religions Mod:

Fence your city with units. However, religion might still come alberit slowly through trade routes.

Short answer: NO

you cant clear your city from every Religion. You can make your "religion" call it atheism and then use inquistor from a atheism city of your own to remove other religion from every other city.

I try to see religion as an extension of the policy tree but I dont always rush found one. I do, however, build religious buildings and I will adopt other Civ's religions just to get their bonuses, particularly if they are related to religious buildings. Then it's a matter of saving faith points to buy great people, units or buildings or whatever else their faith offers me.

Allowing another Civ's faith also seems to make them less aggressive towards me which enables me to concentrate on other things. It may be a 'lazy' way of playing but sometimes I just don't want to focus my energy on protecting or spreading whichever religious principles I have chosen.

Someone gave you the answer. Found a religion and rename it like the neckbeard you are.
