Why can't I buy the inquisitor?
So I'm in the game, thinking to buy an inquisitor to get rid of that filthy blasphemy that is running rampant in one of my cities, but lo and behold, there is not even an option to buy him using faith. I can get the missionary, great prophet and a couple of other great people, but no inquisitor. What gives?

So, as an update, I CAN buy an inquisitor, but ONLY in the cities I control that worships that blasphemous false god. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, my one true deity cannot get inquisitors? Must I make my original religion the dominant one among my controlled cities before I can get an inquisitor for my own religion? Damn

From my understanding of the civ V wiki, the Inquisitor can only be bought from a city with an Enhanced Religion as the majority. So your religion must be enhanced, as in two great prophets enhanced to be able to access the zealous Inquisitors.

Also, for some reason, they may be at the very bottom of the purchase list. I've seen that happen before, so keep an eye out.

You can only buy the inquisitor in cities with a religion and so long as no other civilian units are present in the city in question. Remember that it is not limited to a single religion; It does not kill any particular religion dependant upon who bought the unit but instead eliminates the religion with the least amount of followers from the city entirely. Think of the Missionary and Inquisitor as two halves of a Great Prophet - The missionary spreads the religion and the inquisitor eliminates the followers of other religions (so long as you do it in a city you can enter and remembering that it will only destroy the religion with the fewest followers in the city).
I can buy inquisitors with faith, can't think of any reasons for you being unable to.

Yes. That's why you can't buy your own Inquisitors.

All missionaries and inquisators carry the dominant religion of the city and also you need to have enhanced religion to be able to buy and inquisator.

You haven't enhanced your religion, so you can't buy inquisitors in your cities which follow your religion, while your neighobur has enhanced his religion already and you can buy his religion's inquisitors in your cities which follow his religion.

I used one great prophet to found my religion, and another to enhance it. Any great prophets after that never had an option to FURTHER enchance my religion, so I just use them to spread the wonderful word of the one true god (who happens to be taoism, the obvious choise for the babylonians in mexico).

So do I need to enhance it once more to make it work, or do I need to make Taoism (my original one) the dominant religion? Most of my cities are following another religion at the time

You can enhance your religion only once. You need to buy inquisitors in a city which dominant religion is your Taoism. You probably have at least your holy city following your own religion?

Don't know what the problem was, I went and made not only my religion the major religion in every one of my cities, it became the most popular religion in the world, still couldn't get me an inquisitor. And yes, I have heard that it could be hard to spot for some reason, but it wasn't there.

Move all units off of the citiy. No troops or workers or anything can be on the city tile when you want to buy it. Pretty annoying.
SamBC Nov 23, 2014 @ 4:12pm
Troops can be in there, just not civilians.

Inquisitors can only be bought for religions that have been Enhanced.

Yes, religion was enhanced, the inquisitor just wasn't there as a choice, and It is not like I was missing it

If a great genereal or any other type of special person is in a city you will not be able to buy him in that city.
m.d.nealy Nov 23, 2014 @ 6:12pm
So move the dude out of your city and then you can buy him.

Are sure you have your religion is enhanced and you are trying to buy an inquisator in city which follows your own religion and there is no civilian unit in that city?

Sounds like a very simple problem, you might be just missing something. You could upload savegame somewhere and then an experienced Civ V player probably spots the problem in just seconds.
