multiplayer game not showing in game lobby
i find it so hard to join othr games because so many are loaded saves, or some thr reason. so i try to host and i used to host all the time and get loaded with players fast, but lately i never get anyone. checked with a freind, i made a game and it did not show up in lobby had to invite him. he did the same and same result, he is in USA i am in canada. we did NOT check private game.
so what exactly is wrong with civ 5 or steam to cause this problem? i want to host a game so i can actually get a game started when those on my list ar unavailable to invite.

Civ V uses region based lobby and region is your download location set in Steam. So you should see Canadian servers in your lobby, while your friend see only servers from the USA. Maybe you used USA as your download location earlier and then it was changed back to Canada during Steam update? I guess that there are more Civ V players from the USA than form Canada.

is there a way to turn this off? so people can see more games and have more people to play with, it's so bloody restricting now.

You can't turn it off, but you can change your Steam download region. So, you see more people if you change your download region to USA, becase there is more players from the USA than from Canada. Problem is bigger on smaller countries, with small playerbase. I'm from Finland and ther e is always just 3-10 servers in my lobby and they are clearly from Finland, because many has name in Finnish. Devs didn't make this to be easy, so players have to change manually to nearby larger country's region if they want to see more players.

But this means really a little. Playng with randoms is just frustrating, those games never end. It's much better to play with friends or make/join a Civ V gaming group. Joining to a game in those cased are usually dealt with Steam friend invitations or IP address of the pittboss server is shared to all players. There is no need for public lobby when played with "known" players, which I recommend.
