Broken city connections - help!
I think I might be experiencing a bug. I have three cities connected to my capital via roads though a fourth city. The game originally recognized all three city connections. However, the turn after it recognized the last connection, it suddenly declared that all three connections had been broken. I cannot see why. There are no enemy units nearby and all roads are still intact. Also, when I hover the mouse over the roads and the cities, it says there is still a city connection there. However, the arrow triangle city connection icons in the cities are gone, and most importantly, so is the gold revenue. I am not using any harbours.

Has anyone heard of a bug like this? Is there anything within the game that could cause this?

Thanks so much.

One possible reason: Do any part of your road network go trough "non ally" territory? You can make road network trough city states, but I think you lose the city connection if you are not their ally anymore. EDIT: Or.. if other civ's or city state's culture borders are expanded to your road in no man's land.

There is also one trick you can use to found the reason for this. Open the 2D strategic view and select city connection overlay, there you can see how the game recognizes your roads as city connections.

One last question.. Are you playing with the iroquois and using forests as your city connection?

who owns that 4th city? Do you have an open borders treaty with them? (or are they a friendly city-state?)

Yeah if the road is ANYWHERE along the way intercepted by another civ or citystates territory then it gets broken. AND YES barbs can spawn ON roads so theres that too. City connections by harbors get blocked when a ship is I think 3 or 2 titles within the cities range so then it would have to rely on a road on land trade route to get a connection.

Thanks for your comments everyone! Yes it turns out that a city-state expanded its borders and took over one of the tiles with a connecting road. I just made the city-state my friend and the problem was solved.

Thanks Damsteri for the 2D view trick. That looks really useful. I am actually playing as Attila the Hun and attempting an early military victory!
