Differences between directx 9, 10, and 11?

Title says it all. I tried Directx 9 after trying 10 and 11 and noticed smoother gameplay on directx 9 with graphics set on high. I currently play on a Windows 8-64bit operating system, AMD quad-core A-8 6410 2.0 GHZ, 4 GB RAM and an AMD Radeon R5 graphics card.

Better DirectX versions are generally better, but some older devices don't have more recent directX versions. Also, AMD Radeon R5 is a a very generic name; please specify the actual card.

DX 10/11 have better graphics than DX9. If it's running smoother in DX9 that means your system is not able to handle the graphics of the other modes. Your CPU and GPU are considered low end so just stick with Dx9.

I'm still on a DX9 operating system, and I always marvel at how good the game looks in screenshots from people with the DX11 version, especially in the water detailing.

That makes sense! Thanks all :) Yea I'll stick with Direct x9 from now on. I'm just glad the game still runs very smooth in the later stages of the game like the modern era.
