Sid Meier's Civilization V

Civilization 5
It appears that Sid Meier has deliberately made Civ 5 not work to get those of us who love CIV 5 to buy CIV7. I am 73 years old and too old to learn that way too complex CIV 7. They don't give a ♥♥♥♥ that I've played and bought every damn game they have produced. I didn't like CIV6 (Did anybody?) and now they are forcing us to CIV 7. If I don't hear from Sid Meier's I'm going to do my best to slow down sales of CIV7! And I'm retired i have time. If Sid Meier wants me to not do that, then send me a link to play CIV5! tulsadstephenson@yahoo.com

Civ 5 working great . :Gems:
The loader issue is not a 2k issue. That was a change made by steam. If you switched operating systems from win 10 to win 11 a lot of people that aren't computer saavy are having the same problem you are. If you are still on Win 10 its not too complicated to go back to the legacy launcher that came with the game when it released for Win XP.

People aren't buying Civ VII all ready. They missed the mark with the game by a wide margin. Its current rating on steam is mixed and this game is 15 years old and has the same number of active players as VII. VII has balance issues that they probably aren't going to be able to fix without some horrendous cludge. It has UI issues that they might be able to fix given another 6-12 months to work on it and I'm pretty sure that leader interactions that no one likes aren't going to be changed because they were a pet project of the head designer and they spent far too much on the art work.

Don't waste your retirement time railing at VII it won't make VII do any worse than it all ready is. If you have IV go back and play some of that. I have. It still works and all the mods that were created for it still work too.

Oh it's the loader. Would've helped to explain that's the issue.
I don't even use a loader tmk.
How? I launch the game through Playnite and I then have Playnite launch the game through Steam. For some reason this works and I can add the dx11 command line option for that to work, where Steam's command line option doesn't work well. Plus Playnite lets me install ludasavi to backup all my save games, cause civ5 makes saving to steam cloud a chore

I don't remember ever seeing a launcher for civ5

Well 73-year old youngster, I'm 82 and feel the same about Civ6 & Civ7.

There absolutely is no 2K/Firaxis conspiracy to force us Gamers into buying Civ7, Were that so, there would not be thousands ** of Gamers successfully playing Civ5 every day !!
My suspicion is that the few hundred players posting similar complaints each has some different way of installing, or launching, { or modding ?,} Civ5 that creates their problem.

Civ5 has worked just fine all through this current supposed "crisis". Played yesterday with absolutely no problems ... BUT I play Civ5 from Steam, as intended. If you insist on some other method, then you may run into uniquely strange problems for which few others will be able to offer help.

Also, I have NOT installed Civ5 in the ...\Program Files (x86)\... directory. There, MicroSoft's automatic security protocols may interfere with proper game-play <e.g., automatically resetting folders to "Read Only"!

Have no idea what Playnite may be, but Civ5 is designed to launch from "PLAY" in the Steam Library. From the Steam Library, Right-click on Civ5; then select <Properties> <General> <Launch Options> and choose the desired DirectX for your game/system. :SocialPolicy:

** EDIT: 18+K Players today !!
