A Civ5 players plea regarding the Recent review bombs....
The recent (November) update to Civ5's executables has angered and frustrated many players. I think I personally wasted almost an hour resolving the issue on my machine. The results of this are seen in forums and the recent reviews as owners of the game carpet bomb it Dresden style.

No notifications of whats was happening, a very vague update message, the anger is understandable and customers shouldn't be treated this way. I can imagine potential players new to the series coming along shopping for a Civilisation game will find this disturbing, and immediately assume Civ5 is the one version not to buy.

Was it a stratagem? Marketing people trying to push commissions and pre-orders? The timing isn't suspicious at all. Seen the player base numbers of all the civ games on Steam? I've no doubt Firaxis has been bothered by this for a long time. We all know how the community is and how they would react, especially them.

Clever perhaps, but quite slimy and leaves a bad impression on the company as whole. Almost as low as loading your product with spyware. These reviews hurt the score of the game, and are not a true reflection of what may arguably be the best in the series. I would ask players please resist doing it.

So, you're asking it to be ignored and fool people (by not telling them about this FACT) into buying a game they may or may NOT be able to play?

This is an issue with the game. They affect review scores. That's just how it is.

I'm sorry, but this is a dumb post.

how do you fix the the updating executable issue? I have tried just about everything
the point of reviews is to share experiences and opinions about a product or service... not to lie for a companies benefit.

it's a financial transaction, they've been payed for a thing... if they do something that makes that thing non-functional it's hard not to review the thing negatively.

that being said my game works fine...

With how many posts there are about the game not working, it isn't a review bomb, it is reporting a legit issue.

Are you fishing for clown awards?

Operation "Removal of the Launcher" will likely be very successful I see now, as many just can't resolve the issue. After their rage review, marketing will enjoy the tanking of Civ5's score, and they'll migrate to the obvious solution of buying Civ6 or 7. Nothing to see here, Mission accomplished.

Unless you are receiving direct financial support from 2K games I don't see why you care

I don't care if the game gets review bombed. It turns new players away from it (as they should currently as it doesn't work) and i already know its the best game in the series and its far too old for a change in reputation to affect how i view the game. Review bombing is merely the player base's way of saying "Do not buy this game, it does not work."
The timing is 100% suspicious, as it was by their hand that 4 months before release they remove the launcher and do nothing to patch the executable. They even went as far as closing the comments on the devlog almost instantly and losing comments of civ VI devlog as soon as they get criticism.
The studio behind civ V is clearly not the same groups of people that work in firaxis now, and I have little hope Civ VII will be any better than civ V. I personally will not being buying civ VII, and plan to sell my stock shares in 2k before it drops, and it will.
