Why isn't my Inquisitor working?

Egypt has converted the religion in my city from Shinto to Islam with a missionary, and I'm trying to erase the other religion with my inquisitor (as they're supposed to do) but the influence of Islam in the city never goes down whenever I use it...what's going on?

My guess would be that you bought the inquisitor in the converted city. So.. the inquisitor is an Islamic one, removing the presence of non-islam religions.

Missionaries and Inquisitors do not default to your civ's religion- they default to your city's religion, and this is not well explained in-game. It's useful for managing multiple religions if they have specific benefits or buildings you want in paticular cities, but not in others. If you bought that Inquisitor in the city with Islam, it will remove all religions except Islam. Buy it in one of your Shinto cities, walk it over, and they'll never expect the Egyptian Inquisition.

I used to get annoyed when other civs unsettled my game plan converting my cities and dealing with the distraction had a detrimental effect on chances of winning the game. i have found though that its an early game issue. How I deal with it now is to accept it and address the situation later. Sometimes the other civs religion has say cathedrals, monastries or pagodas as part of their religion so I make sure I purchase thei building of their religion and later when I'm ready to bring it back to the fold of my religion I'll have my building as well. Its a waste of valuable prophet and or faith trying to reconvert your city while their prophets stooge around your city, Wait till they go away and expend themselves on other civs.
