Civilization 5 update for Mac - doesn't work anymore
When I started Steam today, it automatically updated Civilization 5. Now Civilization 5 doesn't start anymore. It complains that I should have now Mac OSX 10.8.5 or more. Before 10.7.5 has worked. 10.7.5. should still work? What was that update? How could I remove this new civilization 5 update?

FFS, I have an operating system I am completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happy with (10.6.8) and now I have to update it for the sole reason of being able to play a game I've payed for that worked on this operating system less than a day ago? There must be something that can be done about this!?

When chatting with the support on ASPYR these are the replies I got:

"Hey ****! As stated in our link http://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/articles/204669814--SUPER-IMPORTANT-Info-for-users-on-OS10-7-or-older-

Other than using Time Machine to back up your game data, there is no way to reverse the update for Civilization V to be playable on Mac OS 10.6.8. Nor do we have plans to revert this update, or bring support for 10.6.8 in the future."

"With Apple rolling along new software and OS updates, dropping support for older operating systems is a fairly standard procedure. Same with Microsoft dropping Windows XP and other older versions, as well as us dropping Mac OS 10.5/lower, and older PowerPC Macs from back in the day."

"As stated in the article, Civilization V is not the only title that we've dropped 10.6 and 10.7 for. More titles are going to be receiving this update as the weeks roll by."

I guess we're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. ♥♥♥♥!

Good evening everyone! I am by no means an expert on the topic, but I seem to have found a solution to my issue running Civ. I posted some screenshots to imgur detailing how I changed the Minimum System Version for my game files, and hopefully it can work for you as well!

Here's the link: http://imgur.com/a/6rv9s

If you don't trust my link, you can search for "Solution to June 11 Civ V Mac Shenanigans" on imgur.

Best of luck! If this doesn't work, please post more specific issues and I'll continue to procrastinate by helping you guys out!

Hi there! I appreciate the effort of helping us all out. I can't seem to find the info.plist file (running OSX 10.6.8). Any suggestions for how I'd go about attempting the fix?

Or tried to play it out of Steam?
What do you mean?
The Mac Civ V application is located in your 'common' folder.
Just trying to launch the game from there, not from Steam, you never know. Or trying identify the latest modified file within the game application might help.

aspyr support says there is no way to roll it back. seems perma-broke. i agree there should be an old version for the rest of us. i was told this had to do with making mods available.

I stopped the update (and all updates) today, purely since it slows things down sometimes. Good thing I did.

Remember to turn your internet connection off whenever you launch it from now on though.

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS
aseaton820 2015 年 6 月 13 日 下午 2:01
New problem! So I upgraded to OS 10.10, now when I run Civ, about every 5 turns it completely freezes up on me and I can't even force quit. I just have to force shut down. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm wondering if it's because my internal temperature is getting high. That being said, I have smcfancontrol and turn it all the way up to 6200rpm when I play, but my internal temperature still gets to just below 200 degrees. When I ran 10.6.8, this was never an issue, my Mac just ran hot, but now it seems like it freaks out whenever it gets that hot and just locks down on me. Any suggestions or anything I might be able to do to remedy this problem?
mrtickles22 2015 年 6 月 14 日 上午 1:19
Unfortunately they wouldn't give me a refund because I've played the game too much. This is a ripoff.
jurrerere 2015 年 6 月 14 日 上午 1:22
This is not okay. I just paid for Civ5 and now they kick me out, 'thanks for the money, now you can't play the game anymore'. I don't think this is neccesary and would very much like for Steam to reverse these actions. Keep Civ5 supported! This is very bad customer service :(
