Trade Embargo Imminent: what does it do and should I be worried?
Currently playing for a King domination victory. I have killed 4 capitals of the 7 I need, so obviously everyone hates me. Next World Congress has proposed a Trade Embargo against me and I do not think I will be able to prevent it since every Civ left is Guarded and India has half the CS's (I have the other half but it's not enough).

What exactly will this mean if it goes through? Does it mean I cannot send my Caravans and Cargo Ships anywhere except my own cities? This would be bad since my Gold income is borderline at the moment. Or can I still send them to City States? And what about standard Luxury trading, will that shut down? (Not that I can do any since I am so loathed, but still curious)

Thanks

nah, you can still send them to city-states. Just can't trade with major civs... not that it matters what with only three left :D

And yes, normal luxury (trade screen) dealing is unaffected by the embargo except whether the leader in question wants to or not

Hmm. There are still 7 other Civs in the game, as I took their capitals but they all have small outposts cities scattered across the map.

I am thinking this Embargo might actually be an advantage because the current Trade routes are bleeding me for my massively superior Science, India is a cultural monster and I also have a rival for the current dominant religion...

No, in late game science from trade routes is patheticly small. Embargo means from now on you'll have far less gold and your neighbours will have more. They can also embargo city states which will mean total isolation for you. It's hard but not lethal, it will make you restructure you economy building more trade posts and compensation them with caravans. Order tenet will help.
I recently played as India and willingly went full enternal trade and had very nice economy which could not be affected by anyone else.

If they trade embargo you then fck it just do internal trade routes to raise the growth and production of your own cities. I myself use to send trade routes to foreign cities, however I noticed that its alot easier to protect them from being plundered within your own territory, and being able to give a city an additional +90 production or +90 growth is pretty epic.

Problem is my growth and production is way ahead of the other Civs already, but my Gold is borderline due to army size (going for domination).

Build trade posts I told you. Make cities of gold whch produce nothing but gold and fuel them with caravans.
They must be on coast for effectiveness.

beware, they will also Embargo City States, so you won't be trading with anyone!! If that happens, you'll need to cut expenses

Yep. And try real hard to take make a voting block to keep it from happening or even repeal. I had this done to me in a game once, but was able to manipulate enough CSs and AIs (gave them luxuries to vote my way-- need a diplomat present to ask for this) and got it repealed by the next World Congress
