How do I revive my religion?
Hi, I recently started the game and the religion part is really making me confused. I chose Korea and started the Buddhism. But at some point, I realized that all my cities except Seoul believes in Islams and Seoul really cannot do anything about Buddhism. Seoul seems to have no religion right now, and religion summary says that no cities in the world believes in Buddhism anymore.

I cannot purchase anything from Seoul with my Faith, they are just not on the menu. So I don't know how I should spread Buddhism to other countries and cities. Should I just consider that the Buddhism is just really dead at this point? I would appreciate it if someone can tell me how I can revive the Buddhism.

Do your capital show a status "Holy city of Buddhism" in the city info? It should if you founded your own religion. Then your religion will come back. Only way to lose your religion in your holy city is that you have have attacked by enemy Great Prophet which converted your city. You have gained "Indoctrinated!" achievement, so that is what happened. you have to wait until holy city pressure will convert your capital back to your religion.

You can prevent to be converted again in two ways. You can surround your cities with units, so enemy missionaries and prophets can't convert your cities or you can buy a inquisitor to protect the cities if you have enhanced your religion. Inquisitor will prevent conversion, because AI will not try to convert a city if there is an inquisitor in the city lands (lands, not in city). Also you should not give open borders to civs with a religion, because missinoaries will lose their strenght and effictiviness withouth open borders. Great Prophets are different thing, they don't lose strenght. Usually it's good to buy at least one inquisitor early (when they are cheap) to protect your holy city.

Yes, it does say "Holy City of Buddhism" when I click Seoul (although not literally the same because I'm playing the game in Korean) but as I said, when I open the 'religion summary' window (?) it still says that there is no city which believe in Buddhism. So I guess Seoul also does not believe Buddhism anymore?

So the only way to get back to my original religion is to wait?

You can buy another Great Prophet and reconvert some heathens.

Everything I could buy with my Faith is not there anymore. It's just not on the list. I can't buy them....

I think it might be possible to revive your religion pre-Industrial Era because the only options for Religion is Save for Great Prophet or Purchase Missionary/Inquisitor. I'd try clicking Save for Great Prophet (if it's there). If it isn't there, then I think your religion has been wiped out.

Try purchasing a great prophet in your holy city off the purchase menu.

Ya just consider it dead, unless your playing on a huge sized map you can get easily overrun religiously by an AI going all out for religion. IMO you should have taken one of these routes:
-If you know your going to get overrun like that pick the beliefs allowing you to purchase religious buildings (since they don't go away after conversion) or ones that only help in early stages of game (wonder boost).
-If you still want your religion in ur cities than put inquisitors in all your cities or surround them with units and only set up trade routes that won't give you other religious influence. Also rush to forbidden palace to make urs world religion buying votes if you need to.
-If you want your religion competing on the global scale then I suggest having ur missionares/prophets convert every other city, have ur holy city with grand temple set up trade routes with cities that possess no religion or have little other religion pressure, and explore the map to find heathens. Also capture other holy cities and have inquisitors bomb every city and itself around it on the same turn.

Yes, only thing is to wait. First your holy city will follow the enemy's religion and then your holy city pressure will repel the other religion and your city is without a religion for a while, until your religion will come back. It's very slow.. so it's very important to never enter a situation where there is 0 cities following your religion. Only thing to do is wait because you can't buy prophets of missionaries.

So if you have only one city following your religion and the enemy prophet is approaching it's very bad. The only thing to do is declare a war and kill him, if you can't block him with your units or you don't have an inquisitor. Losing the religion from your holy city is always bad.

I don't know if it was going to work out if I just waited, but I solved it somehow differently. My capital city seemed to be donminated by other religion and could not produce any kinds of prophet, great prophet units. Other cities could produce them, but they produced prophets of different religions since they were also dominated by other religions, not Budhhism.

BUT, they could produce the great prophet of Budhhism. Not a prophet of Budhhism but yes great prophet of Budhhism. So I eventually ended up buying the great prophets of Budhhism from other cities and turned my capital city back to the country of Budhhism.
