Report a translation problem
I was having the same problem and was going to post my all episode of failure but I've done Deity a few times lately. (Never beat it yet >.<)
I might check these out, thanks also.
Problem isn't cutting through unit spam but that enemy city defenses rise too quickly to realistically do much before that point. It is possible, but highly dependent upon map and terrain, among other things (AI cooperating).
If you think there is an opportunity to snipe a neighbor before that point, go heavy on the range. 4 CB's isn't enough.
diety on pangaea, not even sure what size your playing, but you in for a real numbing experience. i wont tell you what YOU need. but i will tell you what i look for.
water and mountains. even on a pang map, you will find little outcrops of land or tiny 1-3 sized islands, just off the coast. good for setting up possible money trains or at the very least an extra non-touched source of production. its all good to try and attempt a quick blitz on a neighbor, but behind that neighbor is another civ rockin huge numbers. pang gives you no room to develop what you cap. and IF you cap (IF).. you will spend a huge amount of frustration trying to hold it. you see.. AI doesn't use map features to add defense to what they build.. they just plop down wherever.. next to that best luxury. making it super hard for you to "fix". most times, i will sack a town, only to rebuild my own in a better location where its borders used to be.
(with that.. also important to keep your cities real close.)
BUT.. that is not even possible, unless you have something sustaining a decent income for you that isnt getting bullied constantly.
another good thing (i try) to do is build on pinch points using mountains, and just run defense until the buggers run out of thier sizable force. you will eventually "break" the AI that way. if you can widdle them down through a choke point, (even better if you force them into water), you can take the initiative to build you own force to something larger. when AI depleats to a point, it will stop building all together. well not completely, but noticable.
the problem here is time vs tech vs location. you only have a small window of opportunity to take anything before the AI will make cities so fortified, your only hope is to defend and build up to battleships, bombers or arty. being that your on pang.. well. lol. have fun defending up to bomber. i would say that if I can't sack something before the AI has crossbows.. forget it.
imo. small continents is a better type map for what your setup is. having room to breath will help out tremendously and won't at all feel like you have the advantage, but allow for a more rewarding win. well .. at least a feasable one.
there are more tricks.. but this is where i focus my start.

Another tactic is to bribe them into attacking someone on the other side of their empire so that they send units in that direction leaving an opening for your attack.
1. Even in Deity the AI is much more likely to sue for peace if knock out a capital. The general path to domination should be focused on taking capitals and maybe one maybe two other cities related to a particualr civ and then setting up for the next capital. Economy of force and avoiding getting bogged down killing entire AI civs are key. (Note Well: I most of my Deity games there is always that one civ that just won't quit that you end up just having to pursue to the end. For that civ I usually take the slow and steady wins the race approach.)
2. Well promoted upgraded ranged units--lots of them--including things like battleships. Providing mobility to those units (roads) and fortification are key.
3. Play your first few games on a "standard" map--one that has a normal land to water ratio and normal land to number of civs ratio. If there is just too much land the AI will spawn a pile of crappy cities as well as units that will make them less inclined to sue for peace and block your avenues of approach to other AI capitals.
4. Use the AI's ability to spawn massive numbers of units to your advantage. When you decide to take AI city pick cities with lots of infrastructure or key strategic advantage. Your goal is to weaken the effectiveness of their army buy eliminating gold and resource support so that their massive army becomes a liability. Then get expereince killing off their units. Example: in a recent Deity game Alexander was right next door and went into attack mode. For the first 10 turns I just sat there and killed hoplites with composite bowmen until I had six of them promoted 3-4 levels. Then I took out Corinth which was surrounded by hills, marsh, had two silk and six iron and was 6 tiles from Athens. Alexander and I traded Corinth for the next 4-5 turns reducing its population down to 1 and also in killing off about 6 hoplites and 3 ranged units. I took the city three times with the same seige tower because well ahead of time I had built a road that allowed me to move the seige tower out of the city the turn after capture. Then I just sat there killing off greeks with ranged units for the next 20 turns while building national wonders, cargo ships, and founding new cities, trading with friends. By then Athens was ripe for the taking, half their army gone, best units gone, my units promoted to double shooting, extra range monsters. After Athens was done the Greeks were reduced to second class status, Corinth's population back to a decent level, and I had a pile of super effective units.

I was kinda hoping all the Ghandis would nuke each other in the end-----but nooooo. Just a love fest. I once put an extra Elizabeth in a game by accident and they spent the whole game hating each other.
It makes for amusing screen shots, but nothing as funny as your Kammy needing blue jeans, which might be my all time favorite.
