it should be in the game already. when you open the game on steam a bunch of options will appear (DX 9, DX 10/11 and for Win8 [in my case i have win8 but that crap just doesnt work for me somehow])

DirectX should install when you install the game. You don't have to download it, the DirectX installer is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\DirectX

Run DXSETUP.EXE from there. It won't hurt anything to run the DirectX installer when it's already installed.

As for it not working in DX11 mode, that doesn't necessarily mean DirectX is messed up. It is likely a problem with your graphics card driver.

What could have gone wrong with graphics card driver? Can it be fixed?

Does the malfunctionig of Direct X interfere with certain mods?

A graphics card driver issue is fixed by downloading an updated driver.

It shouldn't make much difference if you have mods or not.

It would help if you were more specific about what it is doing wrong, and if you posted a DXDIAG.

What's a DXDIAG?

Some mods like the ingame editor won't install.

I followed the instructions. Still doesn't work. Keeps saying "would you like Valve/Civ V to make changes to this computer?
