Game won't launch under Windows 10

As above, just updated to W10 and now the game doesnt launch. It keeps bringing me back to the menu to choose between dx9 and 11 etc...

Well, I managed to launch it by setting the exe to always launch as administrator (even though I already have administrator privaleges :S).

Seems to be working now

Mine works, it's just choppy. Played fine under Windows 8.1. Nothing terrible, just stutters in the city info screen.

This might seem stupid, but (re)install DirectX from the Microsoft Website? I had this problem, that I could not pass the launcher in steam. Once I clicked on the .exe in the steamapps common, he gave me d3dx9_42.dll errors.

in my case it was my first BSOD under windows 10 when I tried to launch Civ5 with Lucid Virtu MVP 2 installed!! Without MVP, no more issue!!

For Nvidia GPU: If you have Lucid Virtu installed = remove it if you have installed the latest nvidia driver for win10. If you want to keep Lucid Virtu, use a previous nvidia driver built for windows 8.1

I don't have Lucid Virtu and I have similar problem: only option that works for me is Tablet Mode, but it crashes after playing few turns. When I choose another option the launcher disappears and appears again after few moments. That sucks!

i had same problem, went to properties > general > set launch options... > and wrote " -dx11 " and after i had no more crashes

I reinstalled W10, set the exe to launch as admin and in W7 compatibility mode. Seems to work fine that way. Upgrading to Windows 10 broke it completely

This is a weird problem that civ has, i updated to windows 10, and now 50% of the time civ launches and 50% of the time it doesnt. last night played for about 4 hours, tonight it closes after the launcher. any help?

Hey guys, just bought this in the summer sale and it wasn't working for me either.

Win 10- icon opens dx menu, when I select and option I can see the process run for a minute but nothing on screen and the process just stops. No error messages.

Looking through this thread helped me fix it. Found game folder in steamapps. Right-clicked on the dx11 exe, selected troubleshoot compatibility, and followed the wizard.

Windows selected a win8 compatibility mode and the game launched fine.

Hope this can help someone else.

Settings were on default..

This. I installed the new stuff on what I had (300 hours on base Civ V) and now I can no longer play on Windows 10. :(

Get a mac. Then you won't have to worry about your game not working because there aren't any games for it to begin with.

Bit late to the party....

I've got it working, turn off all the compatibility stuff. Open Steam, right click on Civ 5, Properties > General tab > Launch Options type "-dx11". Run Civ 5, Choose DX9 version.. VOILA!!
