Two people playing on ONE Civ V game

I did it yesterday with my husband, we aren't sure how we did it though. I downloaded the game on my computer from his account, started up the game, and we started playing together on two different accounts but the same game.
Today however, when we start up the same game, It saws I have 5 minutes of game time before I get booted out the game.
What did we do different? I have no problem buying the game, but if theres a way to save $50 (haven't checked to see if it's on sale, fingers crossed) then we'd like to save the money.

Any ideas?

First off, your husband is a lucky man. Second, you can turn off the intro in your options. (You'll have a shorter load time)

Also there will be a summer sale soon and Civ 5 is one of those games that should be on sale soon. :)

you can play hotseat multiplayer from one computer with one game. i forget if you have to actually pick hotseat and then load, but it is 100% possible as i do this every so often with a friend.

I suggest playing hotseat, that way you 2 can be near each other without needing to spend another $60

Hotseat has no real limit to how many players, once in a lan party we did an 8 player hotseat in the background, while playing other games

I don't like hotseat, It was easier to just to buy the game. Figure I like the game so much, might as well show my support by paying them haha.

If you are going to buy it, I agree with Paxer. You could wait for the Steam summer sale comming up and get it for much cheaper.

You can start one account with civ5 in offline mod and play lan.
