Weird strategies (that work)
What are your favourite unorthodox strategies in Civ?

I rush for religion early as Korea/Babylon, getting Messenger of the gods (City connections make trade routes).
Really does help in the early game.

Not rushing for great library.
when i play with my friends we always say "whoever gets Great Library loses"
and its true 90% of the time, the other 10% is when that persons start was so godlike they couldn't possibly lose.

Go Egypt and spam a crapton of cities. Focus on religion and build faith buildings (pagodas, mosques, cathedrals, etc.) in all your cities. Get the reformation belief "sacred sites" (reformation beliefs are available through the piety tree), which makes all faith buildings create two toursim. You should be able to quickly overwelm opponents with early tourism, leading to an early cultural victory. The reason this works is because the Egyptian burial tomb (which replaces the temple) costs no maitance and gives 2 hapiness, supporting easier city spamming and faith generation.

play as greece. find unit upgrade ruin. demand tribute from city state. do so repeatedly with multipile. build op army with melee units that can wreak flatland cities. take over half the world before they build walls. Once that's done, it's pretty much consilidate and scince focus to crossbows. And you have a medivel era domination win.

thats because the great library takes up too much earlier production and the intial science gain often doesn't compesate enough for it. I'd rather have 3 cities than one with extra science generation.

Yeah, the science advantage can be made up for pretty quickly by everyone else.

I'm currently trying this... and it's working! I don't think I've ever been 'culturally influential' with another CIV (let alone several CIVs) well before the World Congress even convenes. Very nice. :)
