Spaceship parts
This has been asked multiple times, but I still have not found an answer.

I have all spaceship parts. But I can't place them physically into the capital (Washington, American Empire). So now they're adjacent to the capital. Am I missing something here?

Note that I won the domination victory (stole 2 capitals from Morroco), but 4 other civilizations have already completed the appolo project.

Also I just thought it was because there was a garrisoned unit in my city (XCOM), so I airdropped them to a different tile, but the spaceship parts just won't go into the capital tile. And yes, I have a spaceship factory there already (and more in other cities).

Anyone got a suggestion? At this point I'm considering just deleting them to reduce maintenance costs (too many combat units have caused me to be on a negative budget. But note that I still have a couple thousand in gold).

You can't assemble the spaceship after you get a DomV.

Spaceship parts count as civilian units. If you have a worker, great person or any other unit stationed in the capital city you have to move them away in order to assemble the rocket. Military units are allowed to be stationed on the city.

Or it could be as the other guy said and it's because victory was already delcared.

This was the problem. I had a worker unit in there. I've moved them, and can now move my parts into the city. But I can only move one (which is usual since only 1 unit can occupy a tile), so do I just wait until I get a notification to assemble the bot, or...?

I hope Santader is wrong. I really wanted to launch this thing.

When you move it into your capital, if you have move points left, you should have an option to add the part to the spaceship program (which consumes the unit). I haven't played in awhile, but it should appear in the activity box. Move each piece in one by one and add them.

I think you may be out of luck though, I've also heard you can't do it if you've achieved a different victory type.

sigh.

Guess it's selling those parts. On the good side, I just destroyed another capital

Here's the variation on this theme that I've experienced. 1. Yes, I have built the Apollo Project. 2.Yes, I have Science Victory enabled. 3. No, nobody else has won yet. 4. No, I have not accidentally retired, as some have experienced ("Retire" is not grayed-out on the menu, but is available for choice. I have not chosen it.) 5. Though some have said all the parts have to be built in the capital city, you can build spaceship parts in cities other than the capital; they appear on the production lists in all cities with Spaceship Factories. 6. Yes, I have Spaceship Factories built. 7. I have the Ideology policy that I may buy spaceship parts with gold. 8. I have built the three boosters, the capsule, and the engine. I have also successfully moved them to the capital and INTO the capital, and have successfully attached them to the spaceship. I thought I had built the cockpit, but see the next paragraph. That's where the problem is.

When I look at Additional Information (scroll at top left, just under the taskbar), under Victory Conditions, at the Science Victory, though I'm way the heck ahead of every other civilization, I see that the boosters are shown as built, the capsule is shown as built, and the engine is shown as built, but the cockpit is grayed out, not built yet. However, when I look at my cities with Spaceship Factories, even though I have the required Satellites tech and the required aluminum resource, the Spaceship Cockpit does not even show up in the production list. That would seem to indicate that I have already built it, and I thought I had bought the cockpit along with the other parts, but the list says I have not. Looks to me like there's a glitch.

I've been playing Civ since the first game came out. I always play solo, because I do it strictly for my enjoyment, and I have over many years had too many bad experiences playing in multi. I just would rather not. Besides, I'm 75, and who wants to game with their grandmother? It looks like glitches with building the spaceship happen to those of you who play in multi, and those of us who play solo, so that doesn't seem to be part of the problem. I'm going to reload my game and see if that helps. Other than that, I have no idea what the problem may be, but it appears that it may be beyond our ability to avoid.

Update: I did reload my game, back to 1935. I built the Apollo Project when that opportunity came along. I built a Spaceship Factory in my capital. I got the Ideology policy of being able to buy spaceship parts with gold. As each tech was achieved, I built (bought with gold) the necessary spaceship parts. I built all of them in the capital, as an experiment. Upon building the last part, the engine, the ship did indeed launch and I won the Science Victory. So it is quite possible that the spaceship parts need to be bought in the capital. If any of you try this formula I used, do let us know if it works for you.

Based 4X gaming grandma. I’d say I’d play multi with you, except that I’m too busy to play Civ V at all these days (need to get back to it some time for those last four achievements), and even if I did have time, lining up schedules probably wouldn’t be practical. I’d guess a significant proportion of Civ players are over 40, having started with the first game in the series.

Unfortunately, glitches do happen in this game. If you continue to have issues with it even after starting a new game, you may need to clean out the cache (Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache).

Did you disable a science victory when you set up the game? It could have carried over from a previous game as well.

It has been years since I built the spaceship, but I never ran into any issues with it.
