Cannot launch game anymore

I've been trying for the past few hours to get Civ V to launch, i'm stuck at updating the executable. I guess either 2k or Steam screwed this up for us? Super bummed...

Got a pretty extensive Steam library, and the only two games affected are this one, and the companion "Beyond Earth-Rising Tide". Both 2K games....

Since this issue has started, I always have to launch the game twice, the first time it starts with incorrect graphic settings and it can't be fixed- antialiasing does not work, resolution is wrong... why are they changing something that worked perfectly???

Same, I've done everything, multiple restarts, verifying files, run launcher as admin and including a clean install and not working, fantastic work STEAM

Had the same issue. Steam is defaulting to DX9 and I switched it back to DX10/11 and it started working again.

Das Spiel Civ5 startet bei mir auch nicht. Ich dachte das es an meinem veralteten Rechner liegt, jetzt habe ich einen Neuen, aber trotz Neuinstallation und Aktualiesierungen kann ich das Spiel nicht starten

Even from the Steam app window Civ V won't launch anymore. I verify file integrity, it finds one corrupted file, then hit the play and it does "updating executable" for a few minutes and then goes back to play.
I'm running an I9-10900KF, 32 gig, 2x WD 2tb nvm SSDs. There is nothing hardware wise that should be causing a problem. I've run Civ V 1,000s of hours on this system.
Steam needs to fix whatever they've done.

I've just encountered this issue after a fresh install and what worked for me was attempting to launch once in DX10/DX11 mode, let that fail, then swap the launch options to DX9, then launch the game again and it then proceeded with the setup like usual and successfully launched. After this, I exited the game without changing any settings, and then set the launch options back to DX10/DX11 and it launched fine from then on.

I was able to get it to launch. I never use game icons from desktop so I tried that, and after I tried launching it from that icon it started working for some reason.

I have the same issue! Was working fine one day and the next it’s not. :/

My feelings exactly. If it aint broke dont fix it. I even deleted the game from my library and found I'd have to buy it again. I'm pissed.
