GPU Decode disabled - game unplayable
I have tried almost everything I can to identify the problem, find out it's cause, and fix it. The problem is in the title and can be found in the "graphics" settings section within the game. I thought I found the cause, but then it did it again under entirely different circumstances (uninstall Civ5, delete remaining folder, GPU driver uninstall, then AMD driver uninstaller, then DDU,then 1-YEAR old driver install (that I know works), reinstall game same thing.!

This box ”GPU decode disabled” is the culprit and what needs to be fixed, I do not know what is breaking it or how to fix it. Thanks.

What happened? What are the specs?

5800X3D, 7900XT, 4K 120Hz monitor, 40% of the right (only ever the right) is solid grey, with tooltips etc show through when I just tried it (after yet another total driver reinstall) in Hyper-RX mode (no other setting changed besides telling windows to run the monitor at 120Hz (only one attached, same via HDMI 2.1, or DP) with the game set to run at 3800 pixels for the upscaling has about 40% of the screen grey. If I run it at 4K native it is about 45% grey, and a small grey bar at the bottom. If I decrease the in-game resolution, the percentage of grey reduces, this happens either with AMD upscaling OR with native in game resolutions below 4K. I assume that there is some setting file somewhere that is messing all of this up because it DID work, I do not know hat changed, now it is a PITA. Also the performance is in the 20's -40's FPS, rather than the solid smooth 60fps+ (in Native 4K). It all seems to be down to this GPU decode.!

1K (1920x1080p has NO grey at all, everything looks fine, EXCEPT that the performance is still shocking, the game looks awful because of the terrible low res textures (GPU decode disabled), but at least the grey has gone.

I tried this on a different user (that was an old user but never logged into Steam before), same thing.

Right now, the least-worst option to actually play is in Hyper-RX mode, 3800 pixel upscaled to 4K with 40% of the screen solid grey.

ALL other games work exactly as expected.

This is due to the LAUNCHER and Steam.!!!

Then I guess the Launcher is no longer available as of November 18, as what Take-Two says last October 29. Steam is the one that can handle launch options for Civ V from Nov 18 onwards
