Buying complete edition when I already own the base game?
Hi guys.. recently I was given Civ V and I have fallen in love with it. I would like to buy the DLC but am not willing to buy all the dlc individually. If I were to buy a key code for the complete edition could I redeem it on steam and just recieve the DLC? Or will it say that I already have it in my library?
Thanks in advance.

You can buy Civ 5 Complete to get all the DLC. You don't get an extra copy of the base game to gift, but you do get all the DLC. I used buying the Complete Edition to get the Brand New World expansion and a few other DLCs when I wanted BNW. So you can definitely buy Civ 5 Complete on top of Civ 5 with no problems!

*edit* And if you're patient, you can wait for a Steam Sale to get the Complete Edition for only $12.50(unsure of the British price for Complete Edition, but it's always that cheap in dollars, about 75% off if we want to forgo using currency numbers), which is most likely cheaper than anywhere else you could buy a Complete Edition key code, if such a code exists given that it's just a bundle of all the expansions+DLC.

Thanks for the reply, in all honesty I didn't expect one.
I did intact find a key code for civ 5 complete edition on {LINK REMOVED} for around $10. Do you think it will do the same as buying it from steam will(just give me the DLC) or do you think it will do nothing at all?
Thanks once again.

I asked a similar question, and, well, here's the feedback someone gave me.

If you got only the base game with NONE of the DLC, then there's a lot of DLC you don't have. So getting Civ 5 Complete on sale for $12.50 is a good price. The general consensus is that the two expansions(especially Brand New World) are essential to the game, they're that good. I wouldn't consider it a ripoff to spend $12.50 to get all the expansions on top of the base game, already having the base game is no loss of cost in paying that little for all the rest. It's going to be cheaper than buying all the DLCs separately for sure.

I don't remember when the next Steam sale is, surely there's one before the Summer Sale. These sales happen every few months, so you won't have to wait long, and base Civ 5 is still entertaining enough to last all that time.

Here's a DLC guide to make things clearer:
