And it's not the sort of game that would do well with a controller.
Why not? Plenty of strategy games including past civilizations have done well on controller. I too would have like to have seen this as it's a game I would like to relax in my living room playing on my laptop I use there. Which I have plugged into my tv for kicking back on the sofa. :(
There will not be official controller support Civ V, but I have read that Civ V was one of the most popular games played with a Steam Controller. Steam Controller was designed especially for games that didn't have controller support and were usually controlled by mouse.
Steam Controller flopped and is dead now. Try it if you want to play Civ V with a controller and you have one or can get a cheap second hand one. I own a Steam controller and tried Civ V with it once. It was slow and cumbersome to play, but could be bearable if you want to play the game from sofa using a TV.
