Germany is tailor made for domination, even though real Germany would fit all of them...

Wide is where you build an empire with 6+ cities and rely on the amount of cities, where Tall is more like a Kingdom where you have around 5-6 cities and rely upon them growing large populations.

I usually try to start off tall as Germany, but eventually the blood lust and the need to conquer my neighbors takes over and it goes wide....

Tall is usually more effective then wide in the long run, wide usually just gives early advantages (so if you intend to do early warmongering go liberty).

I'd say tall. The Hanse buff is a percentage, meaning its effect diminishes with smaller cities. Assuming you intend to make heavy use of Panzer, an expensive, strong and highly mobile (elite) unit, you'd probably want it made in the capital or somewhere with lots of military buildings anyway, meaning your troops will probably come out of the same city (for all the exp and promotion buffs) regardless of where you do battle, thus reducing the significance of having lots of cities for military unit production and the dependence on extensive home front

Have a tall empire is around 4 cities and to prepare for your panzar attack you should make sure you have plenty of oil, gold, landships and bombers. Oil is most important because otherwise you can't build the tanks or air support.Gold is needed to upgrade all of your land ships so your ready to invade immediately, and bombers are needed to take down cities or stronger units. So you have a ~4 city empire and you you have just killed 3 neighbors with your great rush, this is now called a pupet empire because for the time it takes to annex them with stable happiness it'll be too late and insignificant, (quick game speed)

I play almost everything tall. Even my Liberty games, I don't settle all that many cities. With Germany I like to recruit barbarian units in the early game and if I get enough of them, I rush my neighbor and kill him. Annex his capital, and his 2nd city too if it's in a good location. Now I play peacefully until the industrial era. Then it starts again. ;)

Your most important buildings as Germany are the caravansary and the hanse; maybe even better than national college and universities (you want those too, of course) If all the CS's are on islands, substitute a harbor for the caravansary.

Germany is strong in the early and late game so I would say tall. In the early game u can conquer a civ if u get lucky with barbarians, but generally u are just going to try to secure good settlements and positioning. From there u get a good science and production rate and rush panzers and Hanse. The need for science is why I would say go tall; however, if u r really aggressive in the beginning and go wide it can work as well. It's just a much riskier strategy and you have little advantages in the midgame so early game conquering would be crucial.
