Tips for Playing as the Aztecs ?
I really like playing as them but I just don't know what victory to go for. They don't have any specail unit for domination, they have a little science buff from jungles but it's not going to beat any science civs and there culture bonus seems quite bad.

Also are they best to be played wide or tall ?

Any tips would be great please :)

depends on what level your playing but king or less i always go tall with any civ, aztecs get bonus culture from kills so put a point in honor after you start tradition to find barb camps and clear them out for gold and culture

there is a ton of info on the internet for various civs and strategies, try GOOGLE. You will get better results than this discussion forum

Aztecs are actually pretty good at science, due to their unique building. Settle your cities on rivers or preferably on lakes, and they'll become absolute monsters.

The Aztecs real science buff is their floating gardens. Your cities that have them will grow out of control -- especially if stacked with Temple of Artemis.

I played Aztecs and went Liberty instead of Tradition once -- in the mid-game I had to put all my cities on "stop growth" to manage unhappiness. Otherwise my cities were still growing even when unhappy.

I love playing the aztecs! Take the opener for the honor tree and have raging barbarians turned on and you will be cranking out culture at an amazing rate. What you do with all those quick social policies is completely up to your play style.

My kind of guy...
Even better with the 'barbarians - unlimited exp (v 2)' mod

You should prob play domination or cultural victory.

Aztec floating garden alone can net out some insane growth and makes you somewhat of semi science civ. Due to its insane growth, tradition is always good choice although that garbage jungle bias tempt you to go liberty. <=restart until you get some non-jungle tiles.

Culture gain from kill is not enough to make you go wide or liberty properly and if you wanted more culture, poland free policy would be way better anyway. This ability will probably allow you to complete tradition bit faster and maybe give 1~2 more social policies than other civs but it is just negligible.

Also, jaguar is ok replacement for scout that has little bit more future value than scout.

In short, when you play Aztec you know you are playing because of floating garden and should build your strategy around it.

Oh and don't open honour for the extra barbarian culture, it is so little it is just not worth it.

Yeah if you're going to use just the Honor opener it should almost entirely be for the camp notification.

Honor/Tradition mix is not bad for Aztecs. You'll want to fill Tradition pretty quickly, but a few policies in Honor will not be wasted. Two policies on the right for semi-peaceful play (your city culture boundaries will expand very rapidly, and the happiness bonus is nice) or two on the left for warmongering.

The 2 Honor policies on the left are amazingly efficient. It's like gaining XP twice faster. Even Poland can't follow.
