Cities vanishing!
Does this happen to anyone else? Whenever I play civ 5 my cities characteristics have a tendency to just vanish. The borders stay, but it's JUST the borders. Everything else is gone. All buildings, all wondrrs, all crops, the city itself. Gone. Someone please help me!

Have this alot on just the City Icon.. not with crops etc or within the city interface. ie when I make a new city, there's nothing there. Not a single building and it's only when they city hits pop4+ that the city appears.

I may have over-reacted, however this game is unplayable for me. I can not stand my cities vanishing. Every one I create they have no city. I can see farms and the like, but the cities themselves are not visible. The only one not affected seems to be the capital. I have searched these forums and have not found any threads that echo this problem. So I must presume it is not a common issue?

It's just a graphics glitch when buildings, farms and roads are not shown. It has no effect on gameplay, hence it not fixed and nobody really talks about it. Graphics glitch in turn based strategy game is quite low priority subject. Some systems are more affected by the glitch than others, but I have seen the problem in both low end and high end PCs. I haven't seen disappearing buildings often, but disappearing farms and roads are common in every game. I have seen those with every PC I have had in past 5 years, while played Civ V, regardless if that PC had only integrated graphics or the best available discrete card.

It can happen more if the memory on your GPU is low (so usually late game) or when running mods.

@Damsteri. I feel you are trivalising the issue somewhat. Maybe it does not matter to you, but some of us actually want to see our cities getting bigger as we advance. Some of us want to view our civilisations as a solid world and so want everything in that world to be visible. A city not being there...affects that. Forgive me if I seem impertinent here, but I am looking for an answer or a fix to this issue, not excuses made for why there is allegedly no fix.

@donald23. I run civ 5 nowadays on a 8gb HP that is an average gaming spec machine. I used to play this game just so you know, on a 3.5gb acer that was not optimised for gaming in any way. A machine I used to get other graphical glitches in the game, like textures and the like stretching into the sky, and circles of light and all sorts, but NEVER cities vanishing. So I do not understand why it happens on a better computer for gaming with over double the memory. Nor do I understand why this has only been happening to me since mid 2014

I've never had that happen in over 1500 hours of gameplay.

sounds like your cities are being abducted, win a tech victory with whatever cities you have left and ghandi the hell out of that space race that keeps taking your towns!

No, its definately one of the mods I am using. I know this now because I started a game up just with the reseed mod on, and then I took that one off after I had a map I wanted...did not have a single city vanishing and I went from 4000bc to 500 ad before I stopped. I am soon going to try having just resource mods on, see if my cities vanish and if they do, I will take them off one by one until I find out what mod is doing it.

Step one of troubleshooting games: remove the mods and see if the problem occurs in a clean game. Now you know why.

I will try and get on that however reseed is a blessing and a curse. I am sure anyone here who uses it, knows why.
